Now everyone can afford to buy at least one eco-friendly fashion item this Spring. I’m so excited because we truly vote with our dollars. If you buy organic cotton – any organic cotton (cotton pad, cotton tampons, cotton bed linen), you are sending a message to the industry involved, that you want a cleaner, safer planet. It is one of the most powerful ways that you can make you voice heard.

Remember, that the greenest thing you can do is to find and stick to your own style, rather than being a fashion victim – this year’s must-have’s are next year’s nightmare’s. It’s smarter for the planet and your wallet to buy items that don’t scream “this year”.

When I first started writing about green fashion, there were only a handful of designers that were eco-friendly, and they were very expensive. Now, major fashion chains have stepped up to the plate with inexpensive and very pretty offerings. Here are some of my Spring favorites:

Nautical Boat-necked long-sleeve T-shirt from Zara: I love this shirt so much. Everyone needs at least one stripey tee this season and Zara’s long an short-sleeved t-shirts in organic cotton, are the best and $16.99 is pretty amazing for a great quality long-sleeved tee. It also comes in a short-sleeve too.

H&M’s Conscious Collection: H&M is the number one user of organic cotton in the world! I love their sustainable collections,
where they use organic cotton, hemp and recycled polyester. I also love that many of their designs have a classic feel and can be worn year after year. Prices start at $19.99.

Dahlia Dress by Green Heart: I love simple Spring and Summer dresses made in India by a Fair Trade co-op. This Dahlia dress (left) is so simple and pretty, worn under a denim jacket with a pair of cute ballet pumps and at only $64.95 it’s a steal!

Eileen Fisher Organic Cotton Ballet-Neck Dress: I need one of these in every color. Sold exclusively by Garnet Hill, this adorable dress is a wardrobe staple. You can wear in over leggings or skinny jeans with boots. When it gets warmer, you can belt it with ballet flats in the day, or high heels in the evening. As it’s so chic and simple, it’s a great piece for showing off jewelry. $98.00

Prana’a Amaya Dress: This is such a pretty summery easy-to-wear dress. I’ve always loved the company Prana, because of their strict environmental standards. This dress is made from recycled polyester,
