11 Awesome Uses for Lavender

11 Awesome Uses for Lavender
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

No home should be without a giant bottle of lavender essential oil. It has so many uses, that even if you yourself don’t care for the smell, someone in your family will benefit. You need to make sure it’s the real deal because many companies dilute pure essential oils with cheap carrier oils. This not only decreases their aroma and potency, but minimized the active properties. I love the organic lavender essential oil from Mountain Rose Herbs.

So check out my 13 uses, and remember to subscribe to my You Tube Channel for loads of videos on how I incorporate the magical power of essential oils into my beauty routine.

  1. Aching Muscles: I run a bath of hot water, before adding 20 drops of lavender essential oil, and 1 cup of epsom salts – magical!
  2. Anti-bacterial: I love to make my own bathroom de-germing spray by adding 1tsp of lavender essential oil to a sprayer full distilled water.
  3. Fatigue: When I get that dip in the middle of the afternoon, I sometimes add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a tissue or even better, a cotton hanky, and have deeply inhale.
  4. Dizzy Spells: Dizzy spells can occur for not reason at all (sometimes as a result of stress or exhaustion,) so use them as you would a smelling salt. Add a few drops onto a hanky or even the cuff of your shirt/sweater, and inhale.
  5. Insomnia: Make a little spray by adding 50 drops of lavender essential oil to an 4-ounce sprayer bottle, which is filled with distilled water and 1 tsp of rubbing alcohol.
  6. Headache: Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a wet terry/face cloth. Place it in a sealed plastic baggie and chill it for an hour or so in the fridge. Lie down, and place the sweet-smelling, cool cloth on your forehead.
  7. Long-haul travel: Never get on a plane without a little sprayer of lavender essential oil. You can dab it on the headrest behind you to help you sleep,  and even create a sprayer (see step 5) with which you can de-germ your area (your screen, table, and arm rests).
  8. Sinusitis: You can add 10 drops of lavender essential oil to a bowl of steaming water, over which you place a towel. When you are ready, poke in our mouth and nose, and continue to breathe deeply until the steam dissipates.
  9. Wounds & Cuts: You can help healing and prevent scarring by adding 3 drops of lavender essential oil to a piece of gauze and placing it over your wound or cut.
  10. Burns & Scalds: I got very bad facial burns a few years back for something exploding in my face. I religiously applied a thin piece of gauze on which I’d dotted some lavender essential oil over the burns while I was lying down. It seriously healed my skin!
  11. Stress-relief: If you are super-stressed in your home or office, make sure you use a good diffuser to scent your entire room with lavender essential oil.
  12. Cooking: Did you know that you can add lavender essential oil to all kinds of wonderful dishes. My favorite is very easy: Honey Lavender Cream – simply whip up 4-ounces of dairy or cashew cream, and add 2 drops of lavender essential oil, and 1 tsp of runny honey.  You can top all kinds of yummy sweets with this exquisite cream.
