I have been trying a “thankful” experiment for the past 3 months: Every morning, as soon as I wake up, I have to mentally list 5 things that I am grateful for – 5 things that I LOVE about my life. It’s extraordinary the difference it makes. I don’t think I’m alone in beginning my day with a multitude of worries and what if’s. My mind just clicks into its usual stream of chatter, which early morning, involves a great deal of planning. My default is to worry, and so I’ve found that this simple exercise completely changes the landscape of my morning. After forcing myself to focus on 5 things (and sometimes it does take quite a lot of focus,) I feel a massive surge of energy. I’m more ready to tackle the day with a smile on my face.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again – whatever you put your attention on increases! If you put your attention on the things that you really love about your life, I promise that you’ll get more of the same.

I am personally so thankful for all the incredible blessings in my life – I can even go as far as to say that I’m grateful for the things that are a bit tough – it’s always these little happenings that keep me on my spiritual tippy toes, and often present a beautiful silver lining. More than anything, I’m grateful to be living in a country that prizes freedom. When we look around at all the terrible strife and warfare that is happening at this second around the world, those of us who live in the US have a serious advantage.
