My Healthy Daily Routine

Healthy Daily Routine
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A few of you have asked what my healthy daily routine is- it changes day-to-day, but here are the broad strokes:

First thing in the morning:

I drink about 2-ounces of organic aloe vera juice (Trader Joe’s) cut with 2 ounces of filtered water. If I’m not having a smoothie for breakfast, I drink 1 tbsp of Power For Life in a little fruit juice.

If I’ve managed to get up early, I sit down and write, as in the early quiet hours, I’m at my most creative.

As soon as dogs and child arrive on the scene, I make myself a large mug of organic black tea, which I drink with almond or coconut milk. This serves as my caffeine-kick of the day.

Breakfast:

I make sure that I eat some kind of protein to prevent me feeling hungry two hours later. These are some of my favorite breakfasts.

Homemade Granola with homemade yogurt

Protein Pancakes

1 soft-boiled egg with two slices of sprouted grain toast

Smoothie (rice milk, hemp protein powder, Power For Life Powder, blueberries, raw honey).

Post-Breakfast:

I pour myself a large glass of filtered water with a slice of lemon to start off as I meant to go on.

I exercise no matter what! Favorite routines include: hiking for a couple of miles with energetic little dog, 15 minute kettle bell work out, 20 minute yoga practice, Bar Method DVD, or 45 minutes weights at the gym.

I meditate – even if it’s just for five minutes – I need to remind myself that I’m not really running the show as much as I’d like to believe I am!

Mid-morning: I brew a small pot of Silver Needles White Tea. What I love about this tea, is that you can steep the leaves at least 3 times. so this small pot keeps me going all morning.

Lunch: I almost always eat a raw lunch so that I make sure that I’m getting the full spectrum of nutrients and enzymes. I prepare a large salad made of  some or all of the following: romaine lettuce, baby spinach, arugula, celery, cucumber, pea sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, garbanzo beans, black olives, avocado, radishes, tomatoes (only if in season,) raw almonds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries or apricots.

I’ll often toast a wholewheat pitta to eat with my salad.

I prepare a dressing with good quality olive oil, apple cider vinegar, raw honey and mustard.

Afternoon:

Mid-afternoon is my time for a steaming mug of bright green tea. My current favorites are sencha teas, by Lupicia, which taste grassy and earthy.

I also, drink 1tbsp of Power For Life in a little pomegranate juice.

I’m a bit of an afternoon-snack girl in that I love a little cookies or slice of cake around tea time, but it has to be healthy or I’ll feel horrible. I experiment baking all kinds of healthy recipes every week – so check out Simply Gorgeous Food for ideas.

Sometimes late afternoon, if I want a pick-me-up, I’ll brew a mug of chai tea and drink it with a little coconut milk.

Dinner:

I cook from scratch almost every night and you can see a number of my recent supper recipes at Simply Gorgeous Food. 80% of my recipes are vegan or veggie and are made from organic and minimally processed ingredients.

After dinner:

I either drink Ashitaba or mint tea with a couple of squares of my favorite Coco Polo sugar-free dark chocolate.

I make sure I’m in bed by latest 10.30 (unless I’m out on the town,) and love to read before going to sleep. I often drink 2tsp of Magnesium Calm in hot water prior to going to bed.
