The holidays can be tough on our skin with all the different foods we consume, changes in our schedule, and feeling different kinds of stress. Unfortunately, Beautiful young woman applying organic cosmetics to her skinthese stresses cause breakouts and nudge the sebaceous glands out of balance, let alone a number of other health concerns and issues. Here are 5 tips to de-stressing your skin and keep your skin in balance so you look and feel your best!

1. Avoid products that overly dry your skin, especially if you are having a breakout. Over drying the skin will strip of it’s natural oils and make it even more susceptible. This means toners, products with alcohol, and anything that isn’t infusing your skin with nourishing moisture!

2. Use a natural, exfoliating, gentle masque once a week to slough dead skin cells and reveal fresh, healthy skin. I love anything with an absorbant clay to help withdraw toxins, and I always follow-up with a lovely, nourishing serum!

3. Drinking plenty of water reduces puffiness and dull complexion.

4. Drink green tea! Studies have shown that EGCG’s found in green tea help to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress associated with stressed skin conditions.

5. Eat dark green veggies every day to get adequate nutrition. Studies have shown that deficiencies in Zinc, Selenium and Chromium can lead to various skin problems.

Along with de-stressing your skin, take some time to pamper your skin with these fresh, homemade skincare concoctions.

–    For breakouts apply lemon juice and honey, rinse after 20 minutes.
–    Make your own masque with Plain yogurt mixed with Turmeric, Ginger or Licorice to calm inflammation and brighten the complexion. (You can use these spices from your spice rack!)
–    Making Pumpkin Pie or Cranberry Relish? Don’t forget to reserve a little mashed Pumpkin or Cranberries for your face, they are packed full of nutrients for the skin. Apply like a masque, rinse after 20 minutes.

  1. For a great natural fix for breakouts on my skin, I dab with a tiny bit of tea tree oil. It’s brilliant. And when my skin’s really stressed, I spritz each morning with a few drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle of water – works a treat! 🙂

  2. DRY BRUSHING REALLY WORKS! IT MAKES YOUR SKIN NICE AND RED AT FIRST BUT THATS GOOD BECAUSE ALL THE BLOOD CARRIES OXYGEN AND NUTRIENTS RIGHT TO THE SKIN ENCOURAGING CELL TURN OVER AND INCREASING CIRCULATION TO HELP DETOXIFY AND REDUCE CELLULITE….ITS CHEAP AND IT ONLY TAKES 5 MINS A DAY!
