5 Best Medicinal Herbs

Planting a simple herb garden in ceramic pots is a great way to have fresh herbs always available.  As someone who lives in a condo without a garden, having a few beautiful potted herbs is a great alternative and also makes for a very aromatic outdoor patio space! To help you put together a potted herb garden I wanted to share the five herbs I have found are the easiest to grow and are used for many common ailments.

Lemon Balm: This amazing plant has a wide variety of uses and is very easy to grow and maintain in almost all environments. Simply add half a cup of lemon balm leaves into coconut oil, warm on the stove (without boiling) and allow the lemon balm oils to distill into the coconut oil.  Allow to cool and use for a refreshing body oil that helps to improve mood and alertness.

Peppermint: The leaves of peppermint can be mixed with green tea and spearmint and consumed as a tea to relieve gas and bloating.

Lavender: A calming herb it is easy to dry and add to a pillow to help with problems falling asleep. Dried or fresh lavender can also be added to a bath for children or adults to help relieve stress and anxiety before bedtime.

Rosemary: This herb has been shown to help improve memory and mental focus. Adding a few branches of rosemary to a small bouquet of flowers on a desk or workspace is a great way to help improve memory and mental focus during the work day.  Be warned this herb is also very easy to grow and can be invasive in a garden if not planted.

Thyme: With natural antiseptic properties, thyme is one of my favorite herbs to use for making tea and natural mouthwash. Make a simple mouthwash by adding half a cup of fresh thyme and half a cup of fresh peppermint to 2 cups of boiling water, allow to the mixture boil until the herbs lose their green color.  Cool and drain the tea, pour into a glass jar and leave by your bathroom sink to use as a quick rinse after brushing.
