WELEDA SALT TOOTHPASTE

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Weleda Salt Toothpaste   ($5.03)is a super-duper way of whitening your teeth naturally. I’ve always been a huge proponent of using salt and/or baking soda as a toothpaste (I even give a recipe in my 3rd book, Do It Gorgeously), and this toothpaste checks all of my boxes. It doesn’t taste too salty, if that is a concern for you, and leaves your mouth and teeth feeling squeaky clean. They also use a natural disinfectant, Myrrh, and an astringent called ratanhhia. The thing I really dig is that the blackthorn extract is amazing for your gums, resulting in a healthier mouth all the way around.

  1. Why isn’t there a hyperlink to take me to the page with pricing, sizes ingredient listing? Or am I missing an important part of this blog? Thank you for your assistance.

    1. Many of these guides and databases give scores that I don’t always agree with. In the case of toothpaste, the main “offending” ingredient is silica, which is controversial in the personal care world. If you read the science behind why this ingredient became controversial, and why its still allowed in products, it will give you a greater understanding and hopefully put you at ease.http://www.australianprescriber.com/magazine/17/2/49/51/

One more thing – I contacted Weleda and this was their reply:

The safety issues surrounding silica pertain to the inhaled crystals from silica dust, or crystalline silica, which is a different form than the silica used in our Salt Toothpaste. Sometimes these safety guides flag ingredients without taking into consideration the dosage amount, form of the ingredient and its usage. When used in Salt Toothpaste, silica dust is neither inhaled or ingested. The FDA approves silica for use in food – it has a long safety record — and it’s safety has been evaluated by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel. Created in 1973, Salt Toothpaste has not been altered since. Its formula/safety is rooted in anthroposphic medicine, and silica is used in the product for consistency and as a mild abrasive. It is one of the safest and most natural ingredients you can use in an effective toothpaste.

  3. Thanks so much for that Sophie. I will continue to use it. The commercial toothpastes make me get canker sores, this is very cleansing and gentle.
Btw, just bought your book and already made your household cleanser (worked better than anything I ever bought) and Vitamin C serum (LOVED). Can’t wait to make more! xx
