I have been waiting for weeks to test Jane Iredale’s new Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream, called “Glow Time”($48.00). I was so excited when I heard about the Jane Iredale BB Cream because I had a feeling it would be one of the better ones on the market – and I was absolutely right!

As is the case with most BB creams (AKA Beauty Balms or Blemish Balms), Glow Time covers blemishes, minimizes pores, disguises wrinkles, and protects your skin. The beef that I have with some of the more know BB creams is that many of them contain harmful/useless chemicals. As a BB Cream might be the one and only thing you put on your facial skin (taking away the need for a separate moisturizer, primer and sunscreen,) you want to make sure that you pick a cream that contains ingredients that really are nourishing. I know they all say this, but in some cases, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

So, the Jane Iredale BB Cream Glow Time contains grapefruit extract, apple extract, bitter orange extract, sunflower seed oil, aloe leaf juice, and honeysuckle extract – all of which help to refine, calm and rejuvenate your skin. It also contains an SPF 25 that is water resistant for up to 40 minutes.

It feels silky on your skin and it really easy to smooth over your face with your finger. Because it’s very thick, it’s actually best to dab it onto your skin, and then smooth – a little goes a very long way! For greater coverage you can use a brush, but it worked great for me with my fingers. It comes in 6 shades – now beware that you don’t go too light. I went way too light the first time I tried it because I thought I would be a BB3 or Bb5 (I have medium beige skin), however, both these shades were too light, so I found BB7 to be my perfect shade. It’s extremely concentrated, so when you smooth it out over your face, the color saturation will fade slightly. If you can possibly go into a store to try it before buying, I recommend you do that to get your shade right.

The finished effect on me is a truly glowing skin. I don’t feel or look “made-up” and yet it was thick enough to cover a couple of small blemishes I have on my chin. The shade is beautiful and I love that I feel really well moisturized without it being in the least bit greasy – you could actually apply powder blush five minutes after application with no problem.

Jane Iredale also has a new primer, “Smooth Affair” ( $48.00) another winner for me. I’ve tried this under various foundations – mineral and otherwise and I adore it. If you’re not in the market for a BB Cream and love the foundation you have, you might want to try this.  It  also works beautifully under the BB cream too, as it contains similar ingredients to the BB Cream.

  1. Hi Sophie! I recently left this product to the shelf because I spotted from the ingredients list for example PEG and dimenthicone. Do you think I should just ignore them as all the other ingredients seem so good?

I really wanted to purchase this product as I’m heading for a vacation soon and thought it would be so convenient to use there.

  2. I was also curious why you ignored the bad ingredients that are not at all green. I was initially thrilled when I heard Jane Iredale came out with a BB cream, but once I looked at the ingredients I chose not to buy it. This comes across as greenwashing to me.

    1. Hmmmm- interesting. I will look into this further. I’ve been a fan of all Jane’s products for years, so I assumed that this product would fall in line with their extremely non-toxic philosophy. I will look into this further and get back to you all.

  3. Okay, ladies – have just spoken to the team an Jane Iredale, and this is what they said:
Using natural ingredients that are good for the body and the earth is a core belief of jane iredale. Smooth Affair and Glow Time are primarily comprised of natural ingredients. Both are full of potent plant and mineral based antioxidants and botanical extracts – all working towards conditioning, brightening and nourishing the skin. Glow Time also includes natural UV defense and earth mineral colorants protecting the skin from UVA and UVB rays and providing natural coverage. However, this does not mean that we reject the use of ingredients which are not strictly earth or plant based if we feel these ingredients provide important benefits and above all are safe and clean.

Generally, the silicone ingredients inquired about were chosen for their ability to improve the feel and appearance of the skin. Silicone is a substance derived from silica – a mineral found naturally in sandstone, clay, granite or sand. All of the silicones we use are safe and non-toxic and were carefully chosen to work together to retain the skin’s natural moisture, absorb excess facial oil and provide the smooth, soft focus appearance of a premium quality primer and BB Cream.

  4. I’m tempted to buy the Glow Time so I think I’ll just go for it! Thanks for clearing this out with Jane Iredale 🙂 And hey, if it’s good enough for you it’s good enough for me too, heh!

  5. It has aluminum in the ingredients list, that’s one of the worst ingredients you could have on a beauty product. This product is far from green and safe in my opinion, just another company trying to profit from the green wave. Stay away!!!

    1. Hi Gustavo
Jane Iredale just got back to me with this reply to your comment:
We use Aluminum Hydroxide to coat the titanium dioxide in Glow Time in order to give this makeup its high SPF rating. The titanium dioxide ingredient is Ecocert certified. The Aluminum Hydroxide is a widely recognized safe and effective ingredient. It is included on the BDIH list of positive ingredients and is considered a stable form of aluminum found in nature as mineral gibbsite according to cosmetics.org sponsored by the Personal Care Products Council. It has also been FDA approved as an indirect food additive and as an active ingredient in over the counter drug products.
