The Greenest Flip Flops

The Greenest Flip Flop

I’ve just started dusting off my collection of flip flops and sandals, deciding which ones need to be recycled and which can weather another summer. I’m hard on my flips as I wear them all summer long, pounding the heat-baked sidewalks. LA is mercifully casual, as I wouldn’t do well in the heat if I had to stuff my feet into heels or closed-toe shoes all day long. Flip flops and particularly Birkenstocks, may not be the sexiest shoe on the planet (my husband will attest to this,) however they are a staple that most of us can’t live without. That’s why today, I’m sharing The Greenest Flip Flops you can buy!

Feelgoodz are a fantastic company, working proactively towards change for Good. Their flips are made from natural rubber from Thailand and are biodegradable – yes you can compost them! They are super comfy and come in a huge variety of color combo’s. Love their story, website and ethics.

Melissa Sin is an eco-friendly Brazilian company, who have created a flip flop that is actually sexy (husband kind of agrees!)/ I have this exact pair of “bow” flip flops and they have been bashed around like you don’t want to know. They’ve been on rocky mountain hikes in Hawaii and I’ve even used them in place of a beach sock, as I have to admit those beach socks that you’re supposed to wear on rocky beaches when wading into the ocean, look so dreadful. Yet my Melissa Sin’s look almost brand new! They are made of bendy silicone and are also pretty comfortable, although you’d have to go to a Birkenstock for more support. I’ve seen a few knock-off’s this season, but none of them are as cute or well-made as the originals.

Although not strictly a flip flop, I do love my Birkenstocks for a bit more support in and around the home. Their “Flor” line of sandals are vegan, which is great. They are not as comfortable as their leather cousins, but if you eschew the use of leather, they’re a fantastic alternative and still have the traditional cork sole. The reason why they’re not as comfy is that the plastic upper shoe doesn’t stretch as much as leather.

Thanks for this! I am so glad I haven’t bought any new flip flops yet this year! I will definitely be looking for these when I do. 🙂
