Let’s talk about the truth behind coconut oil. This miracle product has gotten a lot of attention recently, so let’s breakdown the fact and fiction behind this hot trend in the food world!! So let’s start here: There’s no buts about it – Coconut oil is a saturated fat. If you have high cholesterol, or a history of heart disease in your family, you probably should avoid this food. Although it’s better than saturated fats in meat and dairy, it should be enjoyed in moderation.

But in skincare and haircare, that’s a different story! It’s great as a makeup remover, but not great as a moisturizer for your face (it’s too thick and greasy). But it’s AMAZING for your hair – Unlike other hair oils, it actually penetrates the hair shaft to nourish! To that end, I’m sharing my secret recipe for gorgeous hair – My Avocado Hair Mask (ingredients and directions below).

And one cautionary note: Remember it coconut oil is a NUT product – so nut allergies come into play, especially in children.

Big lesson: Fats in modernation – In skincare and in diet.

INGREDIENTS
2 tbs raw virgin coconut oil
1/2 ripe avocado
5 drops of lavender oil (optional)

DIRECTIONS
Mix all together, and work through hair, focusing on the tips.
