Okay guys, I’m going to keep this very simple for you: Apple Cider Vinegar does have some health benefits. But notice I say some – meaning it’s not a panacea for all ills. There are a lot of overblown and inaccurate health benefits claims flying all over the Internet. So do be careful! Unless you see peer-reviewed/cited sources of studies, some of the claims (cancer cure, weight-loss, and the list goes on), are a little bogus. That being said, are there any real health benefits?

Yes – thank Goodness there are, however, only a couple (that have been substantiated). The first is that is might help reduce blood glucose levels. A very small study was done where 11 patients were given ACV to drink before going to bed, and in the morning, their blood sugar had dropped. However, more studies need to be undertaken to prove this to be absolutely accurate.

But, the most promising claim, which I have found to be true, is that drinking ACV before a meal may help with the absorption of important minerals. If you are a woman who is concerned about getting enough calcium from your greens, you might want to pay attention to this.

That being said, ACV is an acid, which is why in my Apple Cider Vinegar Digestive Tonic, I add baking soda to neutralize the acidity.

  • 1 cup filtered water (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 orange wedge

Mix the water, vinegar and baking soda in a shot glass. Drink it down-in-one about 15 minutes before eating. Suck on the orange to mitigate the sour taste!

This tonic also helps to fire up digestive enzymes to improve digestion.
