WHAT TO SPLURGE ON…

…and what NOT to splurge on? It’s a great idea to figure out what you really need to spend money on, beauty-wise, and what you can save on. I try to make products such as body scrubs, hand scrubs and even hand creams because I save a lot of money. I also make facial serums with pure organic essential oils, which would cost me a fortune were I to buy it.Some products are definitely more important than others – so, here’s what I think you need to splurge on, and what you don’t:

DON’T: Body Wash and Facial Wash: It’s lovely to have a gorgeous organic, essential oil-infused body wash, but I wouldn’t go overboard price-wise. It’s a luxury rather than a necessity. If there was one item that I was going to buy inexpensively in my facial routine, it would be a facial wash.

SPLURGE: Moisturizer: I think a good facial moisturizer (either oil or cream) is imperative. When I say good, I mean that it should not only be free of synthetic chemicals, but it should be choc full of nourishing ingredients for your skin.

DON’T: As long as it’s non-toxic, I’ll never splurge on a lip balm because I lose them!

SPLURGE: Foundation: Cheap foundations are not only full of questionable ingredients (many of which are aging,) they also don’t sit so well on the skin. Having tried a plethora of foundations, you get what you pay for and if you wear it everyday, splurge!

DON’T : Mascara: If there was one item to get for less in my beauty routine, it would be a mascara. I’ve found some really great natural mascaras are the drugstore, but my favorite natural mascara, which is priced really well ($10.99), is by Honeybee Gardens.

SPLURGE: Eyeshadow and Blush: Cheap powder eye make up and blush often has a very light pigment. Cheap eyeshadow can cake into the creases of your eyes and won’t last so long.

DON’T: Shampoo: You can find some really great paraben-free, sulphate-free shampoos at the drugstore now, so I wouldn’t pay a fortune for a shampoo that I wash out after 10 seconds.

DO: Conditioner: A good conditioner can work wonders and a cheap one either contains so much water that it does nothing, or coats your hair with an unpleasant waxy residue.
