THE PERFECT BEAUTY OIL

We’ve all by now heard of Argan oil – an ostensibly perfect oil for skin and hair beauty, however, it’s important to make sure you’re getting the real thing. I asked our guest expert, botanist and owner of Tilvee Ethical Skincare, what we need to know about this amazing oil:

It all begins with the Argan tree (Argania spinosis) also known as “The Tree of Life” in its native land of Morocco. The tree grows in the harsh conditions of the South West area of the country; surviving heat, drought and poor soil. This unique tree plays a vital role in the ecology, culture and economy of the region.

The production is still a cottage industry and the production and fair compensation provide more employment to the region and enhance the environment. It is important to source Argan Oil that is certified Organic and that comes from Women’s cooperatives. This ensures that the product is authentic, unadulterated and that the women are fairly compensated for their labor. Argan is quite stable and so if a product labeled as Argan oil smells rancid or feels sticky, it is most likely adulterated. The Moroccan government has noted many issues with adulterated versions of Argan oil being exported due to its rising demand.

Argan Oil (also known as “Liquid Gold” by natives) has a remarkable versatility as a beauty oil. It softens dry skin, minimizes fine lines, aids in healing acne blemishes and scarring, balances sebum production, treats split ends and gives the skin a fresh, youthful glow. Argan Oil first made its splash in the salon industry with its ability to smooth, repair and add shine to the hair. Be sure to always read ingredients though to ensure that either its pure Argan Oil or that it’s not just a tiny amount in the formula with a slew of other ingredients; in which case its just marketing hype!

A few tips for your daily skin care routine

  • Use one pump of Pure Argan Oil onto a wash- cloth to remove makeup.
  • Use one pump of Pure Argan Oil and massage into ends of hair to moisturize & repair split ends. Also can be added to your styling aid before blow drying, flat iron, curling, etc. Helps prevent frizz and damage.
  • Give yourself a facial massage with the oil, focusing on gentle circles to soften wrinkles, fine lines and laugh lines.

I highly recommend Tilvee’s fantastic “Vitality Oil” which is 100% Organic, sustainably-sourced argan oil imbued with a beautiful blend of revitalizing essential oils.

  1. I LOVE argan oil! It is such a great product and so wonderful that it has so many uses. I really like mixing it with Rosehip seed oil and kukui nut oil for extra benefits for the skin 🙂

  2. Can I find argan oil at most natural food stores? Whole foods? Are Their any other ingredients that are ok to be included or should it be 100 percent? thanks so much!

  3. I am a hairstylist. I use an argan oil serum from our beauty supply that is awesome. But I tried a few drops of my pure argan oil to a clients hair and it left her hair oily. Should I mix it with something else? I really didn’t use much.

    1. I sometimes use pure argan, but it is thick. I recommend something like the Vitality Oil from Tilvee Skincare (Tilvee.com) as you can use it for your face and hair.
