  1. A Shoe-Lover’s Litany, or,
What I did instead of the October budget:

    A sad state of affairs-
    I must browse endless pairs
    due to
    this wild affliction called shoes:

    I do hate to appear
    In clogs year after year
    now, what constriction, what news?

    There’s work to do, and
    deals to make.
    But unfortunately, I often
    procrastinate.
Hard to hit the road, or
    saddle up and ride
When you have to spend your days
Searching for size 10 and a half wide.

  2. I thank you so much for your green inspiration, you’ve made it so much easier during my transformation. Step by step I’m changing my ways, getting more and more green for all of my days. Inspiring others is what I strive for, to help them be more green and respect nature is what I adore. So please consider helping make my transformation complete, and giving me something more green for my feet. Thank you Sophie!!

  3. The boots are lovely, but I would never wear leather. I don’t think anyone green minded could in good conscience. Leather production has many negative environmental consequences, not not mention the obvious fact that wearing another being’s skin is not the most forward statement one can make.

  4. I always thought “Living with a light footprint” would be difficult and expensive. However, after reading the Gorgeously Green books (original and diet), the basics steps have put me in the right direction. I feel great everytime I ride my bicycle 3 miles to my daughters daycare and then another .5 miles to my work, and then back again at the end of the day, turn down a plastic bag and whip out my Gorgeously Green Chico bag, or eat yummy, crisp organic carrots (among other organic foods). These little steps are pushing me and my family in the right direction and are not a huge detriment to our bank account. There are some items I wish we could afford on our income, such as new eco-friendly boots 😉 but the other changes we have incorporated are helping us to be eco-conscious about all the decisions we make and feel great about them!

  5. There are tiny windows that allow us to catch a glimpse into someone else’s life. We may choose to follow them, and experience another’s path for a shimmer of time. Or, we may choose to walk past those windows, all the time, making our own, proving our existence. Those little windows are footprints. Footprints are not permanent. With time, they wither away, allowing nature’s beauty to once again take the spotlight. Living life with a light footprint allows nature to exist in perfect harmony with ourselves. So live life with a light footstep, you will be surprised in the serenity all around you when you are not the main focus.

  6. Living with a light footprint,
Can’t be a short sighted stint.

These shoes are kinder for the earth,
And we all know what that is worth.

So wear Terraplanna shoes to cover your gorgeous toes,
    Now that’s sweet prose!

  7. Gretchen, I love your haiku! I hope you win!

These boots are seriously cute but I checked out the website and they don’t offer them in lil ‘ole size 5. ='( How sad!

  8. True beauty radiates from the inside. Anytime, you take a moment to think about the impact of a purchase, save your pennies for a treat that is good for you and the earth or educate yourself you become more beautiful. Thankful today there are companies like Terraplana that feel the same way and make products that are beautiful in all the right ways!

    Who wears these terrible shoes?!
    Oh, give her green boots!

Living with a light footprint is important to do. Show the next generation that it’s possible to love our planet and treat her respectfully.

  11. Leave nothing but your footprint has always been my mantra. With these gorgeously green boots, I could leave gorgeous boot prints.

  12. “Living with a light footprint” to me is been connected with mind and soul and been connected with nature.

  13. IT MUST BE THE SHOES!
Living with a light footprint is not something new. It all started with Dorothy who wore recycled shoes. Those shoes with their gorgeous gleen, prove ” THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME TO START LIVING GREEN! “

  14. I would love to try the greener side of shoes! I haven’t unfortunately bought any yet – which is more due to the fact I haven’t bought any new shoes for over a year! Yes, sad I know. However, when it is time for new shoes have an Eco-friendly choice out there is amazing.

  15. living with a light footprint isn’t just about you
reducing and conserving, there’s more we can do
kids are the future, we must teach them “green” too!

  16. I love these boots and the purse! How Chic! I Love when you wear something “eco friendly” and you get all these great comments about how awesome you look or what a nice pair of shoes, etc that is! And I love it more when I tell them it’s green and they don’t believe me, because how can anything green be so stylish! Thanks to Terraplana for keeping us gorgeously green!

  17. i’d love to be tripping the light fantastic on a green planet wearing my Terrplana boots while leaving a light footprint.

  18. Be the Change you want to see in the world; I do my best day in and out to live by Gandhi’s famous words and believe that if we all made small changes such as purchasing greener shoes we would make an enormous change together!

    Living with a light footprint
    In beautiful boots

  20. I have always supported the idea that being green does not mean sacrificing style! These hot green boots are proof!
Thanks Sophie and all the other gorgeously green girls for leading the way!

  21. I will still buy these boots if Good Karma does not gift them to me for free, This planet was made for EVERYONE! NOT JUST ME!

  22. Living with a light footprint can sometimes be hard to do. With all of the big chains calling your name daily….Nine West, Aldo, BCBG, etc. All of these brand make beautiful shoes unfortunately at a great cost to us and the planet. It makes it easier to live with a light footprint by supporting companies like Terraplana and buying beautiful shoes that are responsible.

  23. LIving with a light step on the planet means thinkins generations ahead with every descision I make. Knowing what I do now will ensure the safety of gereations to come. I want my grandchildren to know and enjoy all the natural wonders that I have had the privilage to know. All the many animals, walking in the woods on a crisp fall day, making sand castles on clean beaches and camping in pristine mountains. So with every purchase I make, I think about the impact it will make in not only my life but the planet and future generations!!

  24. It’s amazing to me how the more I learn about living green, the more I realize how every little thing in my life makes an impact, from the shampoo going on top of my head, to the shoes under my feet.

I like how the green movement is helping me become a much more conscious person. I am thankful to the green businesspeople who offer green, sustainable alternatives and to companies like Gorgeously Green for spreading the word about these great products.

  25. Det snør Det snør
    tiddeli bom!
    det er det det gjør
    tidddeli bom!
Nå snør det mye mer enn før
    tiddeli bom
    og hutte meg tu !!!

  26. I saw a quote by St. Augustine “Life is a book and those who stay at home read only one page”
What a wonderful inspiration for all us “green” ladies! All the more reason to be actively conscious about the choices we make and the products we use because leaving a light footprint is our way of thanking the world for giving us such amazing places to see.

p.s. and who says we can’t be fabulously fashionable while doing it?!

  27. How exactly does one live with a light footprint? I think it starts with the small things, the everyday things. I pick up my bright red stainless steel coffee mug on the way out the door. How many disposable coffee cups will I keep from the landfill? As I slide into the car, I feel the softness of my fair trade bamboo pants, but I feel guilty when I start the engine. I tell myself I’ll make up for it by walking to the grocery store later. When it comes to planning dinner, I choose locally grown vegetables for my pasta. I sigh when I return home to a house with the thermostat set low, and as I kick off my shoes, I wonder what I could do tomorrow to make my footprint a little lighter on Mother Earth?

  28. If everyone purchased at least one pair of shoes from recycled materials, the savings could be more than two hundred million pounds of waste from the landfills.

  29. I tend to concentrate so much on my kids when I look at ways to transform our family to a green lifestyle. They are leaving light footprints because I work hard to make their lives greener and better. These boots would certainly be a fun way to lighten my footprint too. Although my feet are bigger than my kids so I guess it would still not be quite at light…HaHa 🙂

  30. We walk the earth but must remember our carbon foot print.Living green is not just something to do to be cool. Its a life and death matter.Every decision we make every purchase we make we never should take so lightly.Ask ourselves “How does this affect the earth?Do we really care, some people think that living green is silly.I think living green is serious. My intent is to live my life the greenest way possible.Even if it means if some of my friends laugh at me.I care and so we all should care.Mother earth is the only earth we have.So walk lightly, and make good choices.Walk and treat the earth with love and respect.

  31. “Living with a light footprint”
These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

  32. It’s easy to ‘live with a light footprint’ when you can be fashionable. I own a few Harvey’s seat belt purses and get the fashionista’s looks and environmentalist’s inquiries. My current bag is made from 100% recycled seatbelts (their greenest) and is tough yet cute. Better to have this functioning on my shoulder then littering the landfills!

Oh the guilt of tossing worn out boots, creating
    Waste choking earths beauty
What to do when a new pair is needed?
My feet desire eco friendly toasty dryness and warmth
    Terraplana please rescue me!

  34. Living with a light footprint

    Whats in a footprint?
    A shoeprint?
    A boot print?

    What you leave behind
springs from your heart and your mind

    Be full of light
    as you take flight

    your prints will shine
and will reflect your being divine

    green-ness
    one-ness

    whole-ness
    good-ness

when you live with your conscience
    you shall leave light prints

  36. Awesome boots….thank goodness they come in a big ol’ size 10!!! Atleast my carbon footprint is nowhere near that large!

  37. Not being much of an only flip flop ans slipper wearer, i find myself dreaming about these boots. The amazing things I will conquer and accomplish as I wear these to the store…

  38. “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone (especially with fantastic boots)” Audrey Hepburn

  39. There’s no place like a green home,
there’s no place like a green home,
there’s no place like a gorgeously green home.

  40. One of my favorite ways to leave a light foot print is by shopping at consignment shops and yard sales, it supports the local economy and its recycle fun. 🙂

  41. Every woman can make a difference working to leave a light footprint on the environment, and these sexy boots will lead you down the right path!

  42. A message to earth: Well, these boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do…these boots are made for walking…One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!
These Terraplans were made for walking, on you they’ll leave no harm…these Terraplans are green and exude only organic charm!

    Ready boots? Start walkin’….

  43. Even in “little old Nekoosa Wisconsin” I could be green and chic one bootprint at a time. That’s a great combo anywhere:)

  44. I just found this website & am reading the “Gorgeously Green” book. This is a whole new world to me & I think it’s awesome! Love the Terraplana boots!

  45. Leaving a light footprint becomes required for us, when we realize that our childrens will inherit this beauitful earth. It becomes a practical way to contribute to world peace by practicing contenment for what we already have and exercizing creativity to utilize our assets to their fullest potential. Hopefully we all learn to make better choices, to go without certain indulgences sometimes so we can fully appreciate a single wish fulfilled one at a time.

  46. I never knew that living green also meant living so fabulous. What gorgeous shoes…befitting your thought provoking and informative site.

  47. “Living with a light footprint”

As a mom of 2 (2 and 6 months) I buy them all organic and all of my energy and time go to them. Well I want to feel Gorgeous again–esp “Gorgeously Green!”
Just like my little ones need help in being green so do I1111

  48. I am a middle school teacher and am in my second year sponsoring my newly founded group, ECO HOPE. I wouldn’t mind running the halls carrying our recyclables in those beauties! And what a way to teach the kids that “being green” can be fashionable!

  49. A light footprint
    Means reducing what you use
    & reusing what you have
    Because a heavy footprint
Always leaves marks where you’ve been

  50. Living with a light footprint is a legacy and a life lesson that we give our children. Who says that you cannot do it fashionably? These boots are a perfect example that we do not have to sacrifice beauty in our life to live lighter, we just need to choose wisely.

  51. It is amazing how living with a light footprint and living a *beautiful* life go together. Plastic, for instance, is so ugly. But natural materials are beautiful! (Like those gorgeous boots.)

  52. Sometimes it is hard to have a “light footprint” and be instyle.
Living in southwestern North Dakota, we do not have immediate access to the multitude of green products that are widely available in the more populated areas of the country. We have to think about the miles that products we have ordered online have traveled, the cardboard boxes ( which are no longer recycled in our area)that we pile in our dumpground and the miles we drive to the larger towns to buy what “green” we can.
Living with a light footprint is more involved and costly than people think.

  53. If I can look at the sunset today and know that my part I
did well..to keep the earth cleaner and make safe choices the will affect others as well.

From my head to my toes, there
are better choices I can make, I must I say to myself I must for earth’s sake.

So for me getting a pair of this
wonderful new soles on my feet, will make me smile and feel good that another footprint I
    did meet!

  54. Whether you’re traveling in a submarine,
    or eating home grown fruits,
    it’s so easy being green,
    with these gorgeously green boots!

  55. Walk softly and carry a big stick.
March through life with your head held high. But tread lightly, so that there may be more big sticks for future generations to carry.

  56. boots boots what a wonderful sight
boots boots with a footprint that’s light
boots boots, what could be more grand
    boots that take an eco-stand!

  57. Sometimes it is difficult to try everything at once. My weakness is shoes. So this will help me lower my carbon footprint.

  58. I’m doing my best to lighten my foot print and to teach my girls that we need to protect our Earth. Seeing as we’re all shoe girls, the boots might even send a better message than me! ;o) Plus, they’re fabulous and the only way I could ever afford them would be if they were given to me in this contest.
    Happy Halloween!

  59. Lisa Schmidt, Canada

Green, green, wherever you may be
I am the light foot print, said She
And i’ll lead Terraplana to be with me…
Cause i am the light of the green, said She

  60. Living a light footprint starts with my home, then my children, and finally myself. I’m always last, sacrafice is my middle name. It’d be so wonderful to win these boots! It wouldn’t have cost me a dime and they’re sustainable to boot!! What a great footprint I’d be leaving in my wake…

  61. Diane Guccione-Van Minsel

What a wonderful pair of boots!!! How fabulous they would look when my son comes home for 2 weeks after being in Iraq for a year!!!

  62. I have a confession to make.

I was one of those girls that bought processed goods from the middle of the grocery store and avoided buying organic foods because I thought it was too expensive. I drive a gas-guzzling SUV in a city that has great public transportation. I bought clothes from the “big-box” stores because they were on sale and didn’t give a second thought to where the clothes were made (and WHAT they were made of!). I took my clothes to the closest dry cleaners because it was more “convenient” than going 5 more miles to the eco-friendly dry cleaners. And I hated yoga the first time I tried it!

A friend of mine suggested I read Gougeously Green…and it has improved my life! While I haven’t gotten rid of my gas-guzzler – I definitely am taking the train and bus more often. I now go to Greener Cleaners for my dry cleaning (and I don’t go as often!). I bought a gorgeous sweater from an eco-conscious store (for the same price that I would have paid for at another store!). And, I am amazed at how much better I feel since I’ve started buying organic food and preparing my own meals than running to the nearest McDonald’s for lunch. I still haven’t taken the leap to trying yoga again, but hey – a little at a time, right?
I don’t need the boots (although they would be GORGEOUS with my new sweater!!), but I just wanted to pass along my little story and let you know the book has one more fan!

  63. If I win a pair of eco-friendly Viannas,
I’ll be the envy of local prima donnas.
I am knee high in mommy gear most days of the week,
But with boots like these I could redefine Mommy chic.
To help this busy Mom “think on her feet,”
Send Terraplanas to make my look complete.

  64. Wow! All of the comments before me are so creative and amazing! I’m so glad we’re all part of this green community.

In order to “Live with a light footprint”, I started small with little things that I can do everyday. By example I am happy to influence those around me. Working at Serenity Health and Fitness has been a great investment for this Earth:) There we do what we can to make the smallest impact on the Earth and the biggest impact on our guests! Little 1 or 2 minute things help, for example we are a paperless facility, using other means of communication, and we research what items brought into our facility will make the smallest carbon footprint.

I believe each little step forward counts, there is no small ideas when it comes to lightening our prints!

  65. Living with a lighter footprint. Whoa..those boots are gorgeous and I would walk PROUDLY but in an Earth humbling and thankful manner knowing that these boots were designed with consciousness and love for our planet..LOVE those boots…Prada should just be ashamed and will be– when they see me coming!… Thanks for your good work~~

  66. Dress up your look with an eco-friendly style,
With Terraplana boots it’s easy to walk a mile,
in someone elses shoes experience for a stint,
what it’s like living with a light footprint!

  67. Living with a light footprint…

Life was never meant to be lived alone…
Nor lived in such such a ways as to hinder the life of another.
Living with a light footprint means living life to the fullest and leaving a footprint where it matters most… in the garden of a loved ones heart, where love and friendship can bloom.
Take a step in the right direction with a Vianna and you too can make a difference, where it matters most!
    ~Coreen

  68. I am buying the Gorgeously Green book for all of my favorite girls for Christmas presents – if they use the book half as much as I do it will be very well-received.
    Thanks!

  69. Tired of wearing my high heels
Want something comfortable, how about something with wheels,
    Oh no! that won’t do
Showing up to the office with my manager saying, “I want to talk to you.”
“I can help you with your feet.”
“Try these boots and they will be a big Treat.”

I would love to win these boots.

Pick me, pick me, pick me

  70. Dear Earth,

    Butterflies and lavender dreams
    Midnight orchids
    A cerulean feather whose
tickling fingers laugh their way across my back

Smile of yesterday; joy of today
    Always live light for tomorrow

    Pleasance clouds and comfort hue
    Rosemary sighs
A flickering of sun ray whose
wandering beams warm their way down my neck

    Gifts from you, Beautiful Earth
    Always I’ll care for you.

  71. Feel the dirt and blades of green grass under your feet, a reminder that the Earth is supporting each step–boots on or not–toward dreams and laughter and love.

  72. A traveling Gorgeously Green girl would look fabulous in Terraplana boots … but she must travel “light” … that mean leaving a light carbon footprint while traveling fashionably.

Just say no to business and first class. Sure, it’s luxurious, but it’s also unnecessary and wasteful.

Pay it forward. For a small fraction of the cost of that plane ticket, passengers can purchase carbon offsets. For a mere $5-20 per ton of carbon dioxide used, individuals can mitigate their emissions.

Go with the flow. Public transportation is a sure-fire way to live up to your green ethics. Riding with the masses means fewer cars on the road and less carbon dioxide emitted.

Fancy footwork. Burn off that big breakfast and walk to your destination. Make sure to secure a good local map and plot out the quickest and safest route to your destination.
Wind in my hair. If more than a few miles separate you from your destination, consider biking there. This option will require some pre-trip Internet searching to locate a nearby bike-rental shop, but once you’ve found one, odds are you can get a good week-long deal on a rental.

  73. Love these boots! I have found it hard to find eco-friendly footwear with such urban, sexy styling. I prefer living with a lighter footprint in the inner city.

  74. The saying is true that you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear but these boots sure do improve the light carbon calf.
Stepping out in style with a light foot print is the only way to go!

  75. Miss Taune Marie Janssen

These boots are simply gorgeous dahlink! Not only are they super stylish, they have a victorian vintage feel to them as well. I would cherish them and I am sure my feet would too. Not only is it time to be respectful of the earth and mindful of my footprint but a time to pamper my feet… after all they take me everywhere I go. : )

  76. Nature’s first green is gold
    Her hardest hue to hold
    Her early leaf’s a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

  77. MMMMMMMM very pretty. Ah but what’s a girl to do…organic greens to fill the gullets of the loudest children in the universe…or…put the green up on G’orgeous boots for Mom. Lucky kids, that is all I have to say!

  78. would love the green shoe to be truly green…as in NOT LEATHER…not from animals and not a petroleum based synthetic either. good luck to all…may your skin never be “vegetable-tanned”! peace

  79. “these boots were made for walking…
and that’s just what they’ll do”..
and every day these boots will kick sustainability into you.
Come on TERRAPLANA.. let’s start kicking!

  80. Leaving a light footprint is all the more fabulous when wearing sustainable footwear! But since I cannot afford to spend several hundred dollars on such shoes, I do what I can in other ways to leave a light footprint that makes a heavy impact.

  81. Living with a light footprint means…
    * Educating yourself and others about the little changes we can make to help Mother Earth.
    * Saying “no” to plastic shopping bags
    * Walking more, rather than simply hopping in the car
    * Picking up litter
    * Turning off the water in between dishes
    * Wearing beautiful, eco-friendly footwear

Living with a light footprint means living simplistically, being aware of one’s surroundings, growing a garden (and raising organically-fed, free-range chickens for eggs!), and living each day to its fullest, while being forever mindful of one’s actions.

  82. Living light as a feather in these boots with recycled materials and vegetable tanned leather. Everyone please get together and use a light footprint now and forever.

  83. “When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.” – John Muir

When one tugs on a pair of Terraplana boots, she finds she is making a difference, one step at a time.

  84. No matter your age, race/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation-we can not ignore the need to Go Green!

I recycle all of my plastics and other materials that my local recycling center accepts and eat only organic food.

This is difficult to do as a college student but I’ve found ways to make it work.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication and for inspiring me and my friends through your books and website.

    Love Always,
    Nicole Blumeyer

  85. Living light on the world
alighting to see only shadows where we’ve been, through the soft footprints left behind by our Terraplannas.

  86. The boots are beautiful. However, for me living with a light footprint means so much more. It means that you not only need to help the planet but you also need to help and give to others who are less fortunate. I would give the pair of boots to a young woman who maybe just needed help “getting her foot in the door”.

  87. Fashion over function has always been my motto. Who knew that I could have function and fashion and help save the Earth all at once! These ravishing boots will leave no footprint at all as I will be dancing on air with them on my tootsies!

  88. Leave it to GG to find Terraplana – I hope to win these for my daughter, Tara, so she can leave the most stylish footprints on the planet, hence Terraplana!!!!!!!!!

  89. My legs are like tree trunks… sturdy to be sure, but shapeless. And I carry a lot of weight- not just physically, but also the weight of concerns, worries and responsibilities. By wearing these sexy ecofriendly boots, I can leave a light footprint, no matter how much I weigh. 😉

  90. My new green movement has finally started rubbing off on my family. My 4 year old asked the people at her Grandmother’s doctor’s office if the candy they offered was organic and later on she asked to take some bottles from her Granny’s house to her home so she and I could take them to have them recycled, along with the stuff we normally take. It really is SO impressive how much kids learn at an early age and I have high hopes for her as she gets older and learns more about fair trade and sustainability. Thanks for all the information in your books, truly the knowledge is so great that it has changed my life and outlook forever. I have bought several of your books for gifts and recommended the books to many others. It still amazes me how one person can make such a difference.

  91. There is enough for all. The earth is a generous mother; she will provide in plentiful abundance food for all her children if they will but cultivate her soil in justice and in peace.
    Author: Bourke Coekran

  92. It’s high time I was light-footin’ it! I try to be green in so many ways, it would be nice if my real footprint was green! Lovely boots!

  93. Jacqueline P. Lewis

    Tread lightly, I say,
    the Earth must live.
    Our Footprint
    so gentle,
    leaves nary a trace.

All depends on what we do now,
    so walk softly,
    tread lightly,
    gentle we go,
    leaving a footprint
    that no one will know.

  94. No need to be “heavy hearted” in these uncertain times….Live “light hearted” everyday with the light footprint of Terraplanna shoes.

  95. I wear leather. I’m not vegan. I recycle. I’ve eaten organic food for over 20 years. I try to live by the 3 R’s. But I would never call myself “eco-friendly.”

Eco-friendly is defined as “not harmful to the environment.” I sincerely appreciate that your company is taking major strides to reduce its footprint on the Earth. However, I challenge you to consider using a term other than “eco-friendly” if you are still using leather as the main ingredient. There is nothing eco-friendly about killing an animal for its skin–unless your company is also utilizing every other part of that animal. Then, of course, I’ll eat my words.

  96. My grandmother wasted nothing,
    used chicken bones for soup,
    reused gently used tin foil.

To make progress in saving our planet, we must regress.

look back to a time when food, shelter and clothing were not a given for most.

When we appreciate all we have and truly respect where it comes from, we will make the right choices. The green choices.

  97. I love living greener (still working on living dark green!)! And I wish everyone the very best in this venture. The boots look totally cool! Although my comment is less sophisticated, my all-time goal is to live with a light footprint as compared to a large buttprint!!! lol

  98. Jennifer Lumsden

What a wonderful time that we live in. To be able to look and feel nice and make Mother earth look and feel nice also. Don’t we all deserve that!

  99. i’ve not shopped since august 29th of this year and plan to continue to reuse and repurpose my clothes until my birthday next year! i’d LOVE a new pair of boots to continue to be light on my feet and not spend money and reduce and re orient my mind towards what it means to consume less and what it means to consume. PICK ME!! : )

  100. These boots were made for walkin’
just be sure to tread so light.
These boots will be green talkin’
    every day and night.
A joy to see, a joy to own,
    made of things eco-consciously grown.
Setting a good example is an easy thing to do,
with help from some great companies and a giveaway or two!

  101. Footprint Footstep Imprint Track Path

(My “footprint” getting smaller. I originally tried to do this with font size, but the program wouldn’t let me!)

  102. While walking in the beautiful Autumn forest and experiencing the fresh scent of falling leaves and feeling the cool breeze on my cheeks, I find myself awestruck by the glory of my surroundings. Stepping ever so gently down the path so as not to disturb the perfection of God’s perfect painting.

  103. My dad always taught me to tread lightly…I always associated this with our families hiking boots. I’d love to associate this with Terraplana’s VIVIANNA’s!!

  104. As a graduate student, living with a light footprint isn’t easy but I do what I can to make small changes every day. I recycle like a fiend, I don’t even turn my heat on most days in winter (which is a feat in Montreal, I can assure you!), and I have replaced all my lightbulbs with energy efficient ones. I can’t wait until I’m finally working so that I can start doing some of the things which aren’t feasible on a student budget (such as wearing fabulous eco-chic boots!!)

  105. I will be getting married the day you choose the winner for this, and we’ve made every effort to have a wedding that celebrates our love for each other, as well as the planet. My dress is secondhand. Food is vegan and organic and/or local (where possible). Everything’s all in one place, and we’re using nature’s bounty (combined with a few vintage pieces) for decoration-pumpkins, cranberries, bittersweet, squash and gourds. If only it were warmer, we’d have been married outside!

  106. The Earth allows you to stand. Let it stand the way it is. The Earth allows you to mark its surface. Let it be the lightest mark you can make it.

  107. We have an undeniable responsibility to be earth friendly and live with a light footprint. We must be the change we wish to see in the world.

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader -unknown
That is what your company is doing, leading the way and inspiring others.

  108. Living with a light footprint,
Oh, how quickly I will sprint,
down the road and past the cows
who will look and say “oh wow”
finally they’re not sporting our hides,
on their feet far and wide!
    What a sigh of relief
will be heard from the beef!

  109. Living with a light footprint, is almost as great as the place in the sand where there was only one set of footprints that was when God was carrying me.

  110. There are many steps on has to make in life.

Even more steps need to be taken to leave a light footprint on our planet.

These boots are a stylish, guilt free, and fabulous step in the right direction 🙂

  111. Living with a light footprint
Could be a breeze in these
    Beautiful Boots made to please
Strutting your stuff on this fair earth
In these boots you’ll be full of mirth
Down to the garden, Off to the market
Moving & Shaking, strike a pose when you park it
Everything Green is the way to be
In Terraplana with footprints safe for a tree

  112. Living With a Light Footprint
    On A Mother’s Budget

I’ve used cloth diapers and chlorine free
Organic fruits and veggies are yummy (and cost more money)
    Just listen to my plea.

I’ve pumped breast milk in a small closet at work,
Loved his sweet little smile and his mischievous smirk.

Soy milk, rice milk, pure maple syrup, and honey
This green mamma is quickly losing money.

I do my best to let the EARTH feel free
But this time MOTHER it is all about me!

Caring for my sweet angel takes a lot of cash
Even to buy his boots I’ve dipped into MY savings stash.

At the end of the month when I examine what is left in the account,
I browse through the catalogs knowing I’ll have to sit this one out.

BPA, lead, and hypochloric acid free,
Get those boots on my feet and this mom will be most HAPPY!

  113. Going green gets lip service from everyone these days. From zippy new hybrids to recycled milk cartons, it’s downright fashionable to pepper sentences with buzzwords like “eco-friendly” and “upcycled”. But when it comes down to losing their chemical-heavy anti-aging, anti-wrinkle creams, the crowd thins a little. Ask them to start wearing their clothes – gasp! – more than once per wash, and watch the tumbleweed take the stage.

Footprints – evanescent though they seem – are left behind as reminders of the past leading to the future. It’s easy to stomp heavily, tracking in toxins and muck, but a lady walks lightly, conscious of the impact of her steps. Today’s confident and gorgeous girl must lead the way by providing an ever-lightening example toward social and economic change. In living boldly, we show how quickly small gestures and easy alternatives accumulate, even if you can’t afford to buy an electric car or invest in biodiesel. Without the deliberate footprints of green leaders, how can we expect to ignite a global revolution? After all, as Gandhi admonishes, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

  114. Thank you for this amazing contest and your contribution to the Green Movement.

    Viannas

    With Terraplana on my feet
I skip lightly down the street
    My footprints can’t be seen
    I’m strutting GREEN!

  115. Living with a light footprint allows you to love more, see more, touch more and explore more.

So why would you want to walk with a heavy footprint and give people headaches and frustration, live with anger and no relaxation.

My way of life is easy and clear.
I am walking with a light footprint
And its as if I am walking on air

  116. Making up poetry is something I normally don’t dare
But preserving our planet…I certainly do care.
So I’ll do what I can and not sit idle in a chair
And maybe I’ll be lucky and win some nice boots to wear.

  117. Terraplana-

I have such trouble convincing people that i try to do everything green.

They look at me and say,” Where did you get those shoes? Are they green??” and i sadly reply, “NO… but that does not mean i am not being green in every other way!”
I make my own cleaning supplies and buy recycled everything. I plant my gardens and apply my organic make-up.

But I can’t seem to find/afford SHOES that are Gorgeously Green!!HELP

  118. Living With a Light Footprint
    giving the earth a chance to recuperate;
Making this earth a better place for generation to come.
    Living With a Light Footprint
is a new chance to desmotrate that we can mend mistakes and learn from the earth.
    Living With a Light Footprint
    is a chance for a re-birth.

  119. Living with a light footprint is like walking a road less traveled, except now that road is starting to get a lot more crowded!

Happy trails to all of us.

  120. I know you want to be just like me.
Reduce, reuse, and recycle, that’s the key!
Just take a little less, give a little more.
    Be earth-friendly; it’s never a bore!
I’m green, you see, it’s so easy to be.
I know you want to be just like me.

  121. It’s so wonderful raising kids who are eco-conscious! We all need to teach our children to be careful about the products we use and do our best to lessen trash and not fill up the landfills.

  122. This “young” grandma certainly would like to be comfortable and look fabulous in your boots while teaching my preschool granddaughters about recycling and the facts of a green life.

  123. Black boots,
    Grey boots,
    “Green” Boots…Yay!
How I wish I had a pair today.
To trip the light fantastic in the wintry weather days.

  124. beauty is on the inside we are always reminded, and so often times do i forget how beautiful my feet are! they make me the woman i am, i am so thankful for my beautiful feet that take me every were without a complaint. The moment my eyes laid eyes on these boots my feet started to ache for them, beauty IS on the inside but having it on the outside feels good to!

  125. Being green is good for a girls self esteem! Makes her gorgeous on the inside-as every girl can be. Right now I’m only green from the top of my head to the bottom of my knees! As these green boots are surely the most gorgeous boots I have ever seen- I’m hoping you’ll be so kind as to give a pair to me!!! Thanks Sophie for inspiring me to go green-love all you greenies out there!

  126. I love to do my part in taking care of our earth. What’s hard for me is that most designers have a one size fits all. I do not fit this idea. There is so much more to me then that. Be green and take care!!

  127. I dream of Jeanne with the light brown hair…
I dream of a footprint that is lighter than air…
I dream of a world for my kids that is fair…
I dream of Terraplana boots…dream it if you dare!!

  128. You have no idea how you just changed my life!

Just the other day I found myself standing in the mall wondering why I could not find just one pair of eco-chic, earth friendly shoes. Just one pair. That is all I wanted! At that point I got stressed out and started to wonder how I become such a green freak.

All of the shoes I have purchased since becoming a green girl are from Goodwill or consignment shops around the city. Being a Gorgeously Green Girl, it is so hard to find eco-chic footwear without spending a fortune, so I tend to go the used route.

Finally… a shop full of eco-friendly footwear, and I do not even need to leave my home! It feels great to be able to purchase non-generic products supporting ideas of sustainability. It does not get better than this!

I want to live forever with a light, eco-chic footprint. Sophie, you are a true life saver!

  129. Oh, I just saw the part about making our note about “Living with a Light Footprint”…well, I’m not as clever as some of these other people who have come up with witty poems…but I would love to have those boots. I have been longing for a pair and winning these would definitely help me stay on the path of living with a lighter footprint on mother earth. 🙂

  130. Courtney Maleski

Been “Living with a light footprint” for almost 3 years now, never felt so healthy and alive. Excited to start a family and raise them with the same awareness I have learned to love. : )

  131. To be gentle in thought, word, and action is to live with a light footprint. Living the message “first, do no harm” would change the world.

  132. Boots are a staple for me in winter, but almost always eco friendly boots are far out of my price range. I LOVE these boots, I will definately be checking out their website!

  133. I work at a place that teaches sustainability to the masses- it is very important to be able to “walk the walk”, not just “Talk the talk”. These boots would certainly help with that!

  134. There once was a green-hearted girl
With a footprint as light as a squirrel
    She saw some great shoes
    And she just couldn’t lose
So this poem she did then unfurl

  135. Now those are sexy boots! Who says you can’t be gentle to the earth AND be smoking hot? certainly not Terraplana!

  136. I love creating all things natural, organic and good for the earth. I have loved harvesting this year from picking gallons of rasberries from a friends rasberry patch to gathering pinenuts and even growing some pumpkins and herbs in my own garden. I also love creating my own organic skincare and makeup. What a fun journey it is when you are on the road where the streets are paved with green!

  137. They say a light footprint is cool!

I think it’s the new golden rule!

    Green people who tread
    are using their head

The future will thank those who led.

  138. Terraplana is leading us on the path to a Gorgeously Green world with their beautifully light footprints. Let’s all reduce our carbon footprint with a stylish pair of Terraplana boots this fall.

  139. I have been green ever since they taught us to recycle in 4th grade. I live in the middle of nowhere and it snows so much! Trying to balance the twins and my green bags would be so nice in those green Terra boots!!!!

  140. When we heal the earth, we heal ourselves. ~David Orr …

When we heel the earth, we heel ourselves. ~Treana…

Living with a light foot print means leaving a place for future generations to make their mark.

  141. “It is a fact that, in the West, we live in a capitalist society, but that does not mean that we cannot be guided by the idea of a social conscience in our work. Yes, fashion design requires consumers to consume, but we can do our bit for society by running our companies in a socially responsible way, and by creating products that promote respect for social and environmental issues. There is also the possibility for power and influence to be a force for change.” Quote by: Giorgio Armani

  142. *these boots are made for waking and that’s just what i’ll do*

*one of these days we’ll realize that’s what we all need to do*

  143. A footprint can leave a lasting impression on whatever it touches depending on how heavy you walk.
So walk soft and save the planet by recycling and supporting companies that do their part to live with a light footprint.

  144. I must say that this pair of boots would be my very first pair as an adult! I have always loved the look of leather…but could never tolerate the obnoxious smell…or the thought of wearing something that came from one of Heavenly Father’s creatures. Love the boots!!

  145. These boots were made for green walking.
And that’s just what they’ll do.
One of these days these boots are going to walk all over the planet with you.
Ode to these beautiful green boots!

  146. People say “It’s the little moments that make life big.” It’s the little things we do that make a big difference. Step lightly and help make the world a better place!

  147. I work in Huntsville Alabama at the Redstone Arsenal for the Environmental Management Division. My job requires me to look my best yet create a healthier environment not only for Redstone Arsenal but for the city of Huntsville as well. Wearing these lovely boots would not only make me look professional they would help me do my part in helping Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville Alabama lean toward having a lighter community footprint.

  148. I love helping the Earth – recycling, using cloth grocery bags, making sure my heat isn’t too high, and unplugging all my appliances when I’m not using them! The only thing that isn’t light about my footprint is my feet. Today, the temperature was below freezing and the only shoes I had to wear were ugly, chunky boots I’ve had for years. If only I had these gorgeously green boots so my wardrobe could match the rest of my lifestyle! (And of course, I would recycle my old boots!)

  149. As a Girl Scout, I was always told to leave it better than I found it. My leaders were usually refering to the campsite, but I find it useful in everything I do. It makes it easier to live with a light footprint when I keep that saying in mind.

  150. When we heal the earth, we heal ourselves. ~David Orr…

When we heel the earth, we heel ourselves. ~Treana…

Living with a light footprint means leaving a place for future generations to leave their mark.

  151. I never wear anything except tennis shoes. No one would know what to think if I wore something as stylish as these awesome boots!

  152. Riddle me this
    Riddle me that
    Stylish like Prada
    Yet eco-friendly too
    The gorgeous Vianna
    Is a revolutionary shoe
    Living with a light footprint
Is not only the ethical thing
    to do….
Now, thanks to Terra Plana, it’s trendy too!

  153. One. The number of planets like our own.

One. The number of minutes it takes Americans to make 750,000 photocopies.
One. The number of minutes it takes for 150 acres of rainforest to disappear.

One. The number of hours it takes Americans to throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles.
One. The number of hours it takes for a plant species to be lost forever.

One. The number of days it takes Americans to use 49 million diapers.
One. The number of days it takes 38.6 million tons of waste to be dumped into the ocean.

One. The number of years it takes for Americans to throw out 15.7 million tons of food.
One. The number of years it takes for 15 million children to die of hunger.

One. The number of people it takes to make a difference.

  154. These shoes are a gift from the “soul.” No pun intended 🙂 WAY TO GO GREEN! And what a nice present to win near Halloween…great BOOOTS!

  155. Here is a Haiku I wrote, entitled Earth

    What have we done now?
    We have depleted the land.
    And almost hurt you.

    Smiling Sun

    Your warmth is just right,
just like a blanket to me
    especially now.

  156. Oh Me, oh my, these boots defy
being green must be crunchy is such a lie!
Terraplana has created a hot, sexy boot and wearing them to tread lighter, for me, would be such a hoot!
