OPEN SESAME

sesameOne of the greatest skincare favors you can do for yourself is to purchase an inexpensive bottle of organic, cold-pressed Sesame Oil. It has so many health and beauty benefits, that you cannot go wrong. Where do I start? It’s fabulous for dry skin, especially after exposure to sun and wind, and it’s a wonderful antidote to chlorine – after you’ve been in the pool. It nourishes your scalp and helps kill the bacteria that can cause dandruff. Sesame oil also helps to remove oil soluble toxins from the skin and is has potent anti-oxidant properties.

As it’s a thick, rich oil, I suggest massaging yourself with it (head to toe) before you get into a hot shower. If you can face it, even massage it into your scalp, hair and all over your face. Rinse it off and then pat yourself dry. You won’t need any lotion at all. If you don’t like the smell, add a few drops of lavandar or geranium essential oil. It’s also great for massaging babies and small kids. My daughter loves it. You can warm the oil by placing the bottle in a mug of hot water for a few minutes, which makes for a delicious massage for anyone.

Finally, keep your oil in a dark, cool place.

  1. In The Japanese Way of Beauty, Great book for those into natural beauty 🙂 Sesame oil is recommended as a winter cleansing oil followed by a black sugar wash which is just unrefined sugar and water heated until it thickens and mixed with a little rice bran or other powder. 🙂
    Very nice inexpensive cleanser.
