Trawling the aisles of Expo West gave me plenty of time to scout out the Top Beauty Trends of 2013. I’m in love with the products that I pulled out – and I’m convinced that each one of them has staying power because they fill an important niche.

So, ladies and gents – here are the Top Beauty Trends of 2013:

1. Bee Venom

Made popular by celebrities and even Royalty (yes, Kate Middleton uses it!) bee venom is the natural alternative to botox. Applying it to the skin promotes a reaction whereby collagen and elastin production is increased. I particularly like Manuka Dr. because they are a bee-friendly company (the bees are not killed or hurt when the venom is collected,) and they formulate all their products with Manuka honey, which has extraordinary anti-bacterial properties. Manuka Dr. has 3 different lines: ApiClear (for troubled skin such as acne,) and ApiNourish, which is anti-aging, and ApiRevive, which is formulated with tea tree oil.

2. BB Creme/BB Balm

This trend came from Asia. BB means either “Blemish Balm” or “Beauty Balm” – either way, it’s a 5-in1- product: sunscreen, moisturizer, primer, blemish treatment, and foundation – pretty cool, right? But you need to be careful that you are buying a BB creme that contains ONLY good ingredients. My 3 favorites are: Derma e’s wonderful new BB Creme, Suntegrity’s breakthrough incredible product (which I use everyday,) and Jane Iredale’s Glow Time.

3. Affordable multi-purpose organic/truly natural personal care:

This is the first year that I’m seeing organic personal care products coming down to a price that everyone can afford. Kudos to EO for coming out with their huge 32-ounce Everyone multi-tasking soaps and lotions.
