Feeling sluggish, bloated and out-of-sorts after eating more than you are used to, and sitting around with the fam? Maybe it’s time to shake it off with a little help from your natural medicine chest. This is the time of year that I love to whip out my essential oils and use the very ones that promote detoxification.

For detoxing your lymphatic system (getting prepped for a cleaner 2016 inside and out!), try using: fennel, cypress, garlic, clary sage, geranium, rosemary, helichrysum, juniper, and lemon.

If you feel a bit tired, sluggish, and/or mildly depressed, try: melissa, rosemary, geranium, elemi, peppermint, neroli, jasmine and pine. melissa, rosemary, geranium, elemi, peppermint, neroli, jasmine and pine.

For bloating or a sluggish digestion, try: basil, fennel, marjoram, thyme, chamomile, peppermint, and ginger.

How to Use Them:

Bath: Dilute 10 drops in 1 tsp of vegetable oil and add to a hot bath.

Massage: Add 20 drops to 1/2 ounce of plant oil (olive or sweet almond is good) and massage into your skin after a warm shower or bath.

Inhale: Use a cold-air diffuser to diffuse essential oils into the air around you. I make my own blends by mixing 2 or 3 oils together. I don’t dilute my oils for diffusing as I like a nice, strong scent.

Which Brand:

There are many great brands that are both “pure” and “therapeutic” (terms that are not regulated), so you do need to go to a trusted company. I don’t love the brands who say they are the only “pure”/”therapeutic” brand out there because it’s not true. Since so many of you have asked, I get almost all my oils from Mountain Rose Herbs because they have a vast selection, they are sustainable, reasonably-priced, and very good quality.
