In this step, I take you through every room of your home, showing you ways in which you make it less toxic and more green. Here are my top tips:
- Make all your own cleaning products (multitude of recipes in Do It Gorgeously).
- Make sure your home is well ventilated.
- Vacuum and dust at least twice a week as many pollutants stick to dust. Use a vacuum with a hepa filter.
- Keep plenty of house plants in every room of your home to improve air quality.
- Know which plastics are safe and which are not for storing food.
- Avoid as much PVC (AKA vinyl) as possible.
- Avoid particleboard furniture/cabinets.
- Have an energy audit, making sure that you get your home well-insulated for the cooler months.
- Know exactly what you can and cannot recycle in your area.
- Start composting
Reuse jars (my favorite ones are nut butter jars) to freeze single servings of homemade soup, chili, fresh juiced fruits & vegetables. Be sure to leave about 1/2″ space when filling jar.Steam clean rugs, put white vinegar on stains before machine cleaning.Use lemon essential oil (a few drops)in final rinse water. Please go to my website, YoungLiving.org/MaryDiDonna for great oil blends.I use Purification as flea & tick prevention for our pets. Other products are too toxic.
