What’s Your Gorgeous?

What's Your Gorgeous?

What makes you feel really gorgeous? When I was sitting over brunch with my girlfriend the other day, I asked her this question, and she said that a gorgeous day for her is one where is she is able to switch off all her electronics, be alone in her apartment in cozy jammies, pamper herself with an Epsom salt and lavender bath/foot scrub, and lie around watching movies all day – that’s how she get’s to feeling gorgeous.

Another friend said that she felt gorgeous on a day when she could just hang with her husband because her always makes her feel that she is the most magnificent creature on Earth. And a work colleague said that a gorgeous day for her is when she can help to empower another women out of poverty.

What’s mine? Hmmmm – for me, it’s all about the people I’m with because they reflect back to me who I really am. When I’m with girlfriends who are supportive, loving, and make me laugh, I am on my way to feeling a bit more gorgeous than I might have done had I been left alone with my own thoughts (that aren’t always kind.) My “gorgeous” has a lot to do with my energy, too. When I feel a kind of life force coursing through my being, I feel lighter, and definitely more gorgeous. So, a gorgeous day for me is one where I get to do some kind of strenuous physical exercise that wakes up every cell of my being. It’s a day when I get to hang and laugh with those girlfriends who are willing to reveal their innermost selves, as I am willing to be vulnerable too. A gorgeous day is a day when I can pamper myself a little: this might mean a massage, a long hot shower & a face mask, or an afternoon nap with a great book. Interestingly, none of these things necessitate the use of a computer or phone, so perhaps my “gorgeous” day is one where I unplug everything so that I am more present for life.

I was at a Wedding shower last weekend, and observed how all the women were delighted watching the bride-to-be being pampered and showered with love. It occurred to me that this kind of pampering and love shouldn’t just happen once in a lifetime (if that). So, I propose that we start a National “Gorgeous” day! This is a day where you can either get together in a gathering with your closest friends, or just luxuriate in your own company. Maybe gorgeous gifts are exchanged?  The only rule is that you do whatever it takes to celebrate your own gorgeousness, and that of the women you love. Are you in?
