DIY Flavored Extracts

DIY Flavored Extracts
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I’m so psyched that I figured out how easy it is to make my own flavored extracts! I get to save a ton of money because if I buy a pure, organic extract it’s going to cost me around 12 bucks a bottle, when I make my own, it’ll cost me half that price. Plus I can ensure the quality of my product. And if that wasn’t enough – it’s EASY to do!

Vanilla Extract

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4-ounce Boston Round Bottles (You can find these in stores like The Container Store, or go to Amazon)
  • 2 vanilla pods
  • 4 -ounces of food-grade vegetable glycerin or 4-ounces of vodka
  • 1 sharp pairing knife
  • A small funnel

DIRECTIONS:

1. Split your vanilla pods open with the pairing knife

2. Push them into the bottle.

3. Pour in the glycerin or vodka

4. Screw on the cap and store in a dark cabinet for 1 month, make sure you give the bottle a good shake every week.

When the month is up, if you want your extract to be stronger, leave the vanilla in for another couple of weeks.

Tip: The following makes wonderful extracts: lemon rind, lime rind, coffee beans, lemon/orange blossom and cinnamon.
