Use This Not That For Colds & Flu

Use This Not That For Colds & Flu

People around me are dropping like flies with colds and a particularly nasty flu. What do you reach for when you, or someone you love gets the sniffles or worse? I have put together a list of my favorite go-to remedies, which are good alternatives for some of the more conventional medicines you buy at the drugstore. This isn’t to say that sometimes I won’t pop an Ibuprofen or the like – especially if my head is pounding and my throat feels like it’s filled with razor blades, but I prefer to take the more natural route whenever possible because almost all those drugstore medicines have side effects.

cold and flu1. Instead of NyQuil (and that kind of medicine), take Source Natural’s Wellness Cold & Flu homeopathic remedy. Why? Taking a NyQuil medicine comes with side effects – I always feel dried out, knocked out, and just “off” when I take these kinds of multi-tasking meds, which aim to do so many opposing things, such as drying up and loosening mucus! The Wellness Cold & Flu remedy has zero side effects and works with your body to naturally ease fever, chills, pain and all the uncomfortable symptoms that come with getting a virus.

2. Instead of Cough Medicines like Robitussin, which again aim to do everything for your cough, and in actuality do pretty much nothing, I like to make this effective DIY remedy.

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp ground black pepper

1 tsp raw honey

1/2 cup boiling water

Place all the ingredient in a small pan and simmer for 3- 5 minutes. Allow it to cool down enough to drink, and drink. The turmeric is anti inflammatory and antiseptic, the black pepper is an expectorant (allow yourself to cough and bring up the nasty phlegm and mucus), and the raw honey is soothing for a raw throat. You can dose yourself with this twice a day, or until cough subsides.

Inhaler-Card3: Instead of a Vicks Stick, try an Olbas Stick, which is way more natural and effective. I also recommend the following inhalation:

Fill a bowl with boiling water and quickly add 20 drops tea tree oil, and 20 drops of eucalyptus oil. Place a towel over the bowl. While the water is still steaming hot, lift towel and poke your face in  – breathe deeply, and it will completely open your nasal passageways.

4. Instead of Sudafed, which really dries me out (my entire body feels dry after this kind of a 1.5oz Sinus Spray _1248drug!), use a Xlear Nasal spray. It’s made from naturally- occurring Xylitol, which keeps your nasal passages moist and bacteria-free. This has staved off many a brewing sinus infection for me.

WEB_Love_Dirt_Refill_5620-150x150Finally, I have just come across these incredible remedies from The Goodly Company. Their HumaLife Anti-Viral liquid comes in a dropper bottle, and helps to clothe the viral receptor sites in our bodies so that the virus cannot take hold. This solution, which is made from Humic/Fulvic acid contains over 80 minerals and helps with bone regeneration and also helps to burn fat. You simply add a dropper full to a glass of water 3 times a day.
