Okay – I’ve finally found what I consider to be the perfect foundation brush. It’s the Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush by Urban Decay. It is amazing!!! I have tested close to 10 foundation brushes over the past year, and some are okay, and some are not, but this one stands way above the rest for a couple of reasons:
First and foremost – Urban Decay are known for their cruelty-free policies. They were one of the first mainstream makeup companies to stand up against animal testing, and for that very reason, I’m very pro-UD. Needless to say their brushes are vegan. The bristles are top quality with absolutely no shedding whatsoever. It’s called “Optical Blurring” because this brush helps to give you a totally air-brushed look. I tried it with 2 or 3 different liquid foundations, and after scrutinizing myself in my horrifically-strong magnifying mirror, I couldn’t see brush marks at all. The other thing that’s great about this brush is that it’s the perfect size. I don’t want a massive foundation brush because I can’t get between my eyebrows without getting foundation on them if the brush is too big. Also for those with smaller foreheads and faces, you really need it to be this size. The bristles are also fine, and take up just the right amount of foundation. I just place a little foundation on the top of my hand and scoop it up with the brush.
I actually tried a number of their eye makeup brushes, too, and was equally impressed – particularly with the blending brush, which is a daily must-have.
Makeup brushes are really personal, and they are vital for applying makeup well. They are an investment, too, but comparing these brushes to some of the higher end ones, I would totally go with UD – worth every single penny!
