Simple, Natural Beauty Routines

I’m a big fan of skincare routine. I believe that people who use many different beauty products and change them all the time have skin that gets irritated more easily, since the skin of the face is particularly fragile.I’m into a simple morning beauty routine that cleanses & primes my skin, preparing it for the day (and makeup) ahead. For a nighttime beauty routine, it is all about exfoliation and returning moisture.  I have been loving these simple, all-natural  products lately and would like to share them with you!

Morning Routine:

After a splash of cold water (whoa, now I’m awake!) I dab some S.W. Basics Cleanser on a cotton pad and wipe down my face & neck gently. This stuff is wonderful, only 3 simple ingredients make a potent, liquid cleanser: organic rosewater, organic tea tree oil, and organic vegetable glycerin. Tea tree oil works wonders on mild acne (mine has virtually disappeared), killing bacteria and sweeping away oils that have accumulated overnight. WebMD even states that tea tree oil works is just as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide for treating acne, and is much more gentle on skin. I highly recommend this product for anyone who has occasional red spots or uneven skin tone.

After rinsing the cleanser, I use Smooth Affair Facial Primer from Jane Iredale. It smells like fresh fruit, and is chock-full of anti-aging antioxidants like apple, royal jelly and green & white tea leaf extracts. Aloe helps soothe the skin, grapefruit brightens and algae & olive leaf extracts improve elasticity and cell renewal. Any product that contains this many yummy ingredients is a winner for me. I like to use this primer to coat my skin with all-natural ingredients before I put on my makeup.

I always wake up with dark circles, so Athar’a  Moroccan Coffee Eye Cream saves me from looking like a zombie, even on the days when I go to work before the sun rises. The ingredients of Athar’a products read like a pure grocery list, totally natural. The coffee eye cream includes shea butter, oils of avocado, argan, lavender, sage, chamomile, coffee seed, aloe, coconut, hemp, green tea, and vitamin E. All organic, of course. Skin around the eyes needs intense hydration and elasticity help to reduce wrinkles, dark eye circles, and puffiness. It smells like coffee, so that helps me in the morning as well!

Nighttime Routine:

First off, I clean my face with the S.W. Basics Cleanser, and maybe once or twice a week follow with their Exfoliant made from simply organic oat flour, organic almond flour, and sea salt. It is something you could make in your kitchen and is effective at sloughing off dead skin cells that have accumulated and made my complexion less radiant. S.W. Basics is a homegrown small business from Brooklyn, so I feel good supporting their mission for simple, all-natural beauty.

After cleansing and exfoliating, it is time to treat my face to some moisture renewal. I really enjoy Athar’a Superfruit & Jasmine Antioxidant Face Cream. Much like their eye cream, this ingredients list is impressive: shea butter, oils of avocado, jojoba, almond, argan, blueberry, lavender, sage, chamomile, aloe, coconut, hemp, acai berry, pomegranate, and jasmine. The light floral scent of jasmine is my favorite part, it makes me feel fresh and exotic. This powerhouse cream of antioxidants is just what you need before bed to reduce free radicals from the environment and nourish the skin.

Lastly, I may finish with a dab of sweet almond oil around the eyes and neck.

So there you have it – my routines in a nutshell. I would love to know what you all use everyday in your beauty routine. Post in a comment below!
