Pyrex is my storage container set of choice. They’ve just come out with this awesome set of storage containers with no-leak, BPA-free lids. The lids also have useful little vents, which are perfect for when you pop them in the microwave. Glass storage is the most eco-friendly way to go in your kitchen. This set will eliminate the need for more and more plastic bags and storage containers – I say ditch as much plastic as you can! Funnily enough, Pyrex has always been my go-to containers for everything from baking dishes to mixing bowls and I use my Pyrex measuring jugs everyday for just about everything from watering my plants, to warming up soup. People get very emotional about their Pyrex too: a friend told me that he nearly fell out with his sister when they were sorting out who should take what after their mother passed on. The sister, to his chagrin, took all the Pyrex baking dishes and he said that years later, he’s never gotten over it!
The winner will receive this 12-pc set. Leave us a comment about perhaps just one step you’ve taken to Green your kitchen.

I have recently begun the process of “greening” my kitchen 🙂 I am currently eliminating plastics. We got over the habit of buying bottled water and now have a filter. Tea tree oil is my new friend and most cleaning products have gone bye-bye! I would love to have a pyrex set- I have heard so many great things about them!
This biggest step I have taken to make my kitchen “greener” is to stop using my paper towels (recycled of course) to wipe the counters and dry my hands. I now use dish towels, and have microfiber clothes that I use to clean the counter tops.
Greening the kitchen is tough! I’ve gotten rid of all plastics containing BPA, but feel that I really need good everyday containers for leftovers, etc. These Pyrex beauties could really be the answer!
We use Pyrex all the time! But the set belongs to my roomate. I love them for storing and baking!
I do everything in my power to use only glass storage….and if I have things like bread that come in a bag, I make cookies and send people them in it so it at least gets one more use instead of trashing. I would LOVE these new pyrex sets…I do a lot of baking for others so they’d be put to use right away!
I don’t use a microwave anymore. I got myself a nice little toaster oven and either reheat food in there or on top of the stove.
Since I really love to cook, I’ve been slowly replacing my cheap starter cookware as it wears out with really nice high quality stainless steel/cast iron/ glass/ceramic pieces that will last a lifetime (and immediately purged all nonstick cookware).
I’m using green cleaning items in the kitchen including dishwasher powder.
I too have been trying to rid my kitchen of plastic. I have been very much looking into buying my own set of pyrex containers and have heard nothing but good things about them. I have made all my own green cleansers for my kitchen and the rest of my home and I feel so much better for it!
I’ve switched out all of my cleaning products. I also am conscious of unplugging all of my appliances when they’re not in use. Similarly, I’m focusing my diet on whole foods bought primarily at our local farmer’s market. (Gotta love a green smoothie!) This limits unnecessary packaging.
I have started using natural products to clean my kitchen. And by natural, I mean hydrogen peroxide, lemon, baking soda, vinegar, and tea tree oil. I love the fresh scent my kitchen eminates and I love even more how fresh and green I feel using them.
The one step I’ve taken to green my kitchen is that there are no chemicals allowed.
Love glass, mom (a chemist) always insisted on this. I only have 4 little pyrex bowls, but I save all the wide mouth jars and re-use them for sauces, dips, olives, soups, spices…
I live in the south of Spain, and here there is nothing green, but I show them by using my metal water bottle, fabric grocery bags and cleaning with none or very little chemicals.
My favorite green thing I have done to my kitchen is that we only use cloth napkins and I NEVER paper towels. Don’t need them and don’t miss them!
OH PLEEEAAASE! My son is incredibily sensitive to all toxins and we have spent a fortune on chelation treatments and getting rid of plastics, changing lights, removing carpet etc. etc. etc. Tupperware is the last thing I’m facing and haven’t been able to spend the money yet on new stuff. Oh PLEASE!
Over the last year, we stopped using paper napkins and paper towels, we are making our own cleaning solutions and we switched to green products for the dishwasher. Our next step is to replace all of the plastic and old cookware. I would love a set of Pyrex!
I used the great recipes in Gorgeously Green book for cleaners. They are easy to make and smell great!
Greening my kitchen…well, I make all my own cleaners, recycle and compost as much as I can, reuse the plastic bags that I still have and will not buy more when they run out, use glass containers, utilize the dishwasher and run it only when full. I don’t use paper towels when cleaning and have been wanting to make some cloth napkins to replace the paper ones. 🙂
I love glassware–I try and dump as much tupperware as possible whenever more glassware goes on sale…
Switching to glass
My most recent green-cleaning update:
hydrogen peroxide…
I use it in the bathtub for mold, and on the kitchen counter, particularly after I’ve prepared fish or chicken. I also spray it directly onto my kitchen sponge to kill germs. I use that and vinegar exclusively at this point for cleaning the kitchen.
AND…I’m now updating all my cookware. I just bought a ‘green’ frying pan.
I always knew I loved the color green…
I love Pyrex!! I have recently started greening my kitchen by buying SKOY Cloths instead of using sponges and paper towels. They work great and can be washed in your washing machine, dishwasher, or microwave. Way cool!!
These are awesome. I have recently been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and have had to get rid of everything in my kitchen including my plastic tupperware. These would be a great addition. So…ridding my kitchen of all my gluten-trapping kitchen products is my first step in greening my kitchen. I have decided to replace everything with green, eco-friendly products. I have also decided to try and buy local as much as I can. So far it’s been tough to find things to meet my allergy concerns AND be green, but I’ve done it. These Pyrex bowls would be an amazing addition; green and glass, nowhere for gluten to hide!
I adore pyrex!
We have recently moved into a small student apartment. Most of our waste is vegetable peelings and scraps, so I was thrilled to find that this complex had a community compost! I’ve started using an empty oatmeal carton to collect my scraps in the fridge, and when it gets full, I make the trek over to the compost pile! It’s lovely. I get a nice walk, and my trips to take out the garbage have been cut in half. I’m greening my kitchen one step at a time!
We almost never use paper products in the kitchen anymore. Instead, we use cloth rags that can be washed and reused.
To green my kitchen besides nixing paper towels and plates; I save glass jars from salsa, sauces etc. Once washed they make great reuseable containers for food, art supplies and all kinds of dodads around the house.
When my husband and I got married I found that he had a huge collection of rather small face cloths (wash cloths). They are fantastic for using on babies and toddlers, and simply go in the wash. I have a stack of them on the kitchen counter (in a basket with the cloth napkins that we use instead of paper towels) ready to use on my messy toddler for meals and finger painting time. I am also the leftover queen, my husband was not brought up on leftovers but is getting used to it – even ‘bubble and squeek’ – which Sophie will know about – fried up leftovers like mashed potatoes, peas etc, so env friendly storage containers would definately not go unused in our house.
I’ve recently started to green the kitchen by joining a local organic CSA program and composting. It’s amazing how much kitchen waste can end up being useful, and I love having fresh, organic, in-season veggies every week.
I have went to recycling my veggies and fruit and feeding my free range chickens left overs.
I’ve been using Vinegar to clean everything in my kitchen! Oh…and also, no more paper towels!I also unplug everything in my apartment when I leave!
