HOW TO DEAL WITH CELLULITE

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This is a much asked question, and I’ve spent a good few years researching this issue. First off the bat – if anyone offers you a miracle cream, DON’T buy it. You’d be wasting your money because there absolutely is no such thing as a miracle cure.

FYI, most women have cellulite in one form or another, and it is really hard to get rid of. If you really dislike your cellulite, and some people couldn’t give a hoot about it (good for you!), but if you really want to get to grips with it, to have to take a 5-pronged approach, and this approach has to be holistic. We’ve all tried just doing 1 thing to shift it: if I exercise hard enough, if I eat the right things, if I do a cleanse, if I drink foul-tasting Chinese herbs (trust me I’ve been there,) but really we need to step back and look at the cold hard reality.

Cellulite doesn’t mean you are fat. It’s often bought about by hormonal changes, and even a stick-thin teenager can have it. It is pockets of fat surrounded by connective tissue called Septa. This is why no miracle cream is going to melt it away.

My 5-prong approach:

1. Detox: You’ve heard it before because it’s true. The best oil you can apply to areas of cellulite is one that contains powerful detoxifying essential and plant oils. The best I’ve found is Weleda’s Birch Oil. This will assist in lymph drainage, which is vital for detoxifying. And this is the reason that I needed to have this oil in my Open Sky store!

2. Stimulate: This step is all about stimulating your circulation and lymphatic system. To this end, I recommend dry-skin brushing with sisal brush every single day – long upward strokes up the backs of your thighs and your bottom. Remember, you do it before you get in the shower.

3. Massage and manipulation: This kind of comes under the stimulating category, too, but it’s slightly different. In order to improve skin tone and weaken the connective tissue that holds the fat cells in place, you want to get deep in there. The best thing I’ve found to do this is the miraculous Bellabaci cup. This cups are simply genius. They are made from silicone and you simple squeeze a cup so that when applied to your skin it will “suction” on. You then move it around (best to apply the cellulite oil first). It firmly pulls the cellulite and the skin upwards and gets the whole shebang moving and deeply massaged. Do this everyday, and you”ll begin to see a difference.

4. Exercise: This is obvious, but if you are going to the trouble to do the above, you need to work out your buns, arms and tummy, too. Whatever it takes  –  for a good buns workout, I love: Kettle Bell workout and The Bar Method DVD’s

5. Drink plenty of lemon water. Lemon water is cleansing and detoxifying and will help with all of the above.
