Honeymoon Style: Hats!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

When you’re planning your honeymoon wardrobe, you’re probably looking at fabulous, flattering bathing suits, stylish sarongs, cute maxi dresses, and a shoulder-baring little white dress for that private, romantic, torchlit dinner on the beach…and there’s one accessory that’s a Must: a great hat.

I’ve found a stunningly chic hat for your Must-Have Honeymoon Packing List. It’s the Tilley Hats Shantung Fedora, created using paper made of pulp derived from rice stalks, and handwoven using Japanese Shantung straw. Don’t think that it’s a ‘paper hat,’ though. This chic topper is smooth and feels top-quality, with a super-subtle texture, soft and pliable, and offers SPF50+ sun protection, certified to block 98 percent of harmful UVA/UVB radiation. And unlike many fashionista pieces, it’s made in North America, Canada to be precise.

I snapped up my own Tilley hats Shantung Fedora since I’m headed to the eco-friendly resort Caneel Bay on St. John in a few weeks, and having previously gone boating and touring without a good SPF-protecting hat, and having envied some of my friends’ ultra-cute island style hats, I’m all set with my fashion-forward fedora. Which – and you’ll love this – looks super-cute on me, and really hot on my husband. I don’t know how they do it. But I do know that we’re going to be sharing our Tilley hat during our romantic island getaway.

Besides being a stylin’ topper, the hat comes with a thin chin tie that will keep that hat on your head during boat rides or on breezy island days, and it also has removable, washable sweatband pieces that fit just under the edges of the hat to keep you cool and comfy, and prevent any sweatstains from building up on this light-colored hat. It also has a secret pocket inside where you can stash some cash or your room key card. So it’s a hat that is doing a lot for you while you wear it.

Perhaps best of all for honeymooners, it packs well. After spending a few hours in your suitcase during travel to your destination, it’ll pop back into shape, and if you think it needs a little extra primping, all it takes is a little bit of steaming and gentle hand-shaping to get it back to looking brand new.

Check out the collection of honeymoon-perfect  hats at Tilley, including the Women’s Broad Rim Raffia Hat, which you can wear with a scarf, and the Town Hat made of raffia with a medium brim that can be worn up or down, among many other styles for sporting or just looking stylish while out touring, dining al fresco, or enjoying a champagne brunch on a catamaran.

Your honeymoon pictures are, after all, just as important as your wedding photos – they capture a magical moment in your life together, and they last forever. Most wedding couples frame and display in their homes more of their honeymoon photos than their wedding photos, so you’ve got to look cute and stylish in those shots! Your fabulous, eco-smart, SPF-guarding hat will do just that…for both of you.

And there’s one more thing…for a casual beach wedding, imagine the groom and all of his men wearing these beach-chic fedoras – it’s a great look, and it’s a gift that groomsmen will love. Who doesn’t look great in a Fedora?

Visit www.tilley.com to see their collection of hats and other eco-friendly apparel for your dreamy honeymoon getaway. The ones I mentioned here are $99, plus shipping. A little bit on the pricy side, but so, so worth it. And with the new add-anything-from-any-store wedding registries out there, you might even add your hats to your gift list for guests to consider! If you don’t get them for pre-wedding gifts, add them to your Honeymoon Look shopping list.
