I have been looking for a Birkenstock alternative for years! I wanted to find a shoe that was equally, if not comfier, and that looks better. It was the aesthetic that really got me hunting. My husband is not a fan of the ubiquitous Birkenstock or any variation on this clog. He’d deemed it the most “un-sexy” shoe on the planet! I’ve carried on wearing mine regardless because I’ve been pretty much wearing them my whole life. However, I came across Gentle Souls shoes and I am smitten. OMG – they are so incredibly comfy it’s ridiculous. But the real bonus is how they look.

Ahead sandals (pictured below right), I got 3 compliments in the first hour – and this is for a comfort shoe! They are expensive, but a very worthwhile investment. Many of the shoes use a special technology whereby flax seeds are tucked within the soles – they contour to your foot with each individual step, and the feel of the shoe actually gets better over time. They are really well made and if you treat them well, they will last for years. How many pairs of shoes have you purchased, but barely worn because they are not super-comfortable? I’m guilty of a few such purchases – so from now on I’m only going to buy day-time shoes that feel like I’m walking on air. Yipee, I’ve found them!
