My Favorite Hair Products For 2011

Finally I have pulled together my favorite hair products for 2011. It has been quite an arduous process to try a plethora of different products, and it’s taken me over 6 months to come up with my final favorite 5 brands. My criteria for a great natural hair product is that the product needs to be as “pure” as possible. I don’t want parabens, SLS, and PEG’s in my products – I’d also rather that the fragrance is natural and not synthetic. All that being noted, the product has to perform really well. I have tried hundreds of brands over the last few years and 90% of them just don’t do well with my hair. I have pretty average hair -tends to be on the dry side as I wash and dry it more than I should, and it contains bleach highlights – I know, not good – but it’s one of my few eco-sins! So I need my hair products to be hydrating without weighing my hair down. Most of the “natural” products I tried from health food stores left my hair feeling like straw, and the accompanying conditioner did little good to remedy the damage.

The great news is that I have found 5 awesome lines. I know there are probably a few more out there, but for many reasons, these are my top choices:

1. Simply Organic: The key ingredient is olive leaf extract, which leaves your hair feeling very soft and shiny. This product smells great and is a great daily choice.

2. Onesta: This wonderful line is infused with Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids. It really nourishes your hair beautifully and again, can be used daily.

3. John Masters: My 2 favorite products in this line are the Zinc and Sage Shampoo with Conditioner, and the Lavender & Avocado Repair Treatment. You will be so happy with these products, particularly if you hair tends towards being dry and damaged.

4. Nana Essence: This small line (just 3 hair products,) is awesome. Nana was a Russian swimmer who got horribly damaged hair from virtually living in a chlorine pool. She researched and found that a few specific herbal extracts are key is repairing damaged hair – one of which is nettle. This line is again great for daily use, especially in the Summer. My husband uses and loves this line too, as it doesn’t smell flowery or girly!
