Mango & Carrot Butter Cleanser

Mango & Carrot Butter Cleanser

When I was in London I found an organic butter cleanser that has an almost cult following. Okay,  I thought to myself, I’m going to figure out how to make it  because it cost almost 70 bucks, so I’ve been experimenting, and am thrilled to share my brand spanking new – Mango & Carrot Butter Cleanser.

First, let me tell you a bit about butter cleansers. In many ways, even if you have oily skin, butter cleansers are the best kind of makeup remover ever, because the natural butters and oils melt and pick up the makeup and grime better than a creme or gel. I know that girls with oily skin get really worried about any skincare that contains oil, but TRUST ME ON  THIS! If your skin is parched and dry, it will overproduce sebum in order to get to what it should be – this is what often causes breakouts. One of the best oils you can use if you have “problem/oily” skin, is jojoba, because it mimics sebum. All that said, this cleanser will strip off all the dirt, and leave your skin feeling silky smooth.

You can  also use this amazing butter to moisturize your hands and feet too. Talk about a multi-purpose product!  One more bonus: The ingredients you are using for this recipe are such high quality that you’d have to pay even more than the pricey cleansing butters I’ve seen in stores.

If you look up “Cleansing Butter” – most of the companies that offer it, (and there are some really great ones!) recommend using their cleansing butter with a muslin cloth. Most of them sell these little cloths for a fortune, too. I highly recommend using a muslin cloth because it’s textured enough to do a great job of pulling off all the grime. I’ve found an inexpensive pack of 8 muslin cloths, which I’ve just stocked up on. If you plan to make this butter, I suggest you do the same. You can also use a cotton face cloth. Either way, you should rinse your cloth in hot water and wring it out prior to wiping off the goop.

You can purchase all the ingredients for this recipe at Mountain Rose Herbs.

Simply melt all the ingredients in a small metal bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water. Everything should melt after about 4 minutes.

Stir in the carrot seed essential oil

Have a 4 – ounce jar ready for your butter – make sure you have sterilized it by putting it through a hot wash in your dishwasher.

Pour in the mixture and allow it to cool before screwing on the lid. You can keep your butter in a cabinet for up to 6 months.

Enjoy!

  1. Hi Sophie! Does this work well for dry skin too? I saw something similar, a cleansing balm that was $40 and I really wanted to try it but didn’t want to fork out the cash if I can make my own. Super excited!

  2. Hi Sophie! Is carrot seed oil a base oil or an essential oil?? I live in Greece and can only find carrot seed oil as an essential oil ( I have found carrot oil as a base oil but it is made from carrot tissue not seeds) thanks 🙂

  3. Hi Sophie!! I was looking up the ingredients to make the mango and carrot butter cleanser and have a quick question for you regarding the carrot seed oil…is the correct ingredient carrot seed essential oil? This is what I am finding on Mountain Rose Herbs, but just wanted to be sure. Cannot wait to try this out!! Thanks!

    1. Yes Megan, this is confusing because sometimes it’s called Carrot oil and sometimes “Carrot seed essential oil”. It’s all the same thing!
