This is a 3 INGREDIENT RECIPE!! – an infused oil, and I have to say I am crazy about infusing oils because it’s so easy, and the infusion imparts a delicate scent to almost any oil. I’m particularly taken with my Lavender Vanilla Infused Coconut Oil
When you infuse coconut oil, you can use it for both skin care and culinary purposes. However, I created this gorgeous lavender vanilla coconut oil as a deeply nourishing face and body oil.
It is multi-functional: You can use it as a makeup remover, a facial moisturizer, a body moisturizer, and even a hair mask. So whip up a few jars for yourself and your friends asap!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups raw virgin coconut oil (get the best quality you can find for this. I used Dr. Bronner’s)
- 1/2 cup dried lavender flowers (you can always toss int the odd sprig of fresh lavender. I used both)
- 1 vanilla pod, halved with the inner paste scraped out.
- 1 small mason jar (approx a 4 ounce jar but if you are eye-balling it, big enough to contain 1 1/2 cups of oil) You may have a pretty jar at home that wish to re-use.
Instructions:
- Melt the oil over a low heat in a heavy bottomed saucepan.
- Add the lavender and vanilla. Stir in in to make sure it is well coated.
- Pour into a glass measuring jug or a small glass bowl. Cover and leave for a week to infuse. Depending on your outside temperature, you may need to find a warm spot to store it because you want the coconut oil to stay in liquid form. (When it gets too cool it will solidify, which prohibits the infusion process).
- After about a week, pour or scoop mixture back into saucepan and gently heat for 3 minutes (not to boiling). Remove from heat.
- Using a nut bag or cheesecloth, strain your oil into your prepared jar.
- Place your oil in the fridge to harden it up. Store in the fridge, unless your outside temperature is really cool.
