Lavender Mint & Basil Lemonade

Lavender Mint & Basil Lemonade

This is my favorite lemonade, as it’s so clean, flavorful and refreshing. It’s so perfect for cook-out’s and BBQ’s, that I have to share it with you today. I’m lucky here in LA because I  have almost  all the ingredients growing a few feet from my backyard, but if you don’t, they’re easy to pick up at most grocery stores.
The only ingredient you may find hard to find is fresh or dried lavender, but as you are using the Essential oil, don’t worry too much if you can’t find any. This is a really refreshing spritzer type of beverage and a great way to impress your guests, as it’ flavor is unique and it’s so pretty.

Place the following in a small, heavy saucepan:

  • 1  1/2 cups of filtered water
  • 1/2 cup of Agave Nectar
  • 5 or 6 fresh mint leaves
  • 5 or 6 fresh basil leaves
  • 3 springs of fresh or dried lavender

Simmer on a low heat for 10 minutes, being careful not to let it over-boil. Take is off the heat and allow to cool.

Squeeze the juice of 5 lemons and place with a cup of ice cubes in a pitcher and pour over the syrup. Add sparkling mineral water until the pitcher is 3/4 full. Add 2 drops of Lavender essential oil, and a few fresh sprigs of mint and basil. Finally add one lemon, thinly sliced.Chill and add more ice if necessary. It’s better to make this a couple of hours before you are going to drink it because the fresh herbs will add even more flavor.

A lovely touch is to decorate each glass with fresh mint and a half a slice of lemon.
