How To Drink Apple Cider Vinegar (without gagging!)

It’s truly not the most pleasant thing in the world to chug but has so many health benefits (see below), that it’s totally worth it. So how much should we be downing? And what is the least offensive way (my husband actually used the word “offensive” when I forced him to drink it for his heartburn in place of Tums).

Amount: If you are a newbie, start with 1 tsp a day, and slowly dial it up to 1 tbsp. If you are already a ACV chugger, make sure you are getting at least 1 tbsp a day – and you can go up to 3 tbsp 3 X per day if you really feel you need it.

How to: ALWAYS dilute in a tall glass of room temp (or even better, warm), water. It’s too acidic for your oral cavity to drink straight, not to mention the gross factor. If it’s still making you gag, do equal parts water and equal parts organic (unfiltered) apple juice and then add your ACV to that.

Advanced: If you’re like “this is kid’s stuff for me – been doing it for years” kind of thing, then why not dial it up to the next level by adding 1/2 tsp of Cayenne pepper to your brew. Cayenne is especially good for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Sweeten or not? As I don’t recommend spiking your blood sugar in the name of your “health” tonic, I would forego honey, but if you absolutely have to have it sweeter, add a dropper of liquid stevia.

How long?: You can take it everyday forever if you want. I recommend once a day, or every other day as a healthy tonic. You can always dial it up if you have issues such as heartburn, reflux, inflammation etc.
