How Meditation Changed My Life

I used to be a theater actress in London, and in my mid twenties suffered from really bad anxiety. I had just started to practice yoga, and became drawn to the idea that I could maybe control the insanity of my mind by a mindful technique of sorts. I began reading books on mediation, and found a peace beyond all understanding when I meditated  in a yoga class (back then yoga classes in London were not what they are today – my teacher was an 80-year old Indian woman who could and would get herself into headstand for a full 3 minutes).

The moment I got a glimpse of the kind of bliss that I occasionally hit on in mediation, I set out on a lifelong mission to find a way that I could connect to this peaceful/blissful state more often.

Over the years I have learned dozens of meditation techniques, including TM, Vipassana Meditation, and many more. I don’t think that any one is better than another – it’s just finding the right one for you.

I really believe that healing myself from horrific facial burns, devastating losses, and depression (all of which I’ve gone through at various times of my life), was largely due to the fact that in times of distress and suffering I have always turned to mediation because I believe that it’s only deep down inside that I can access that healing energy.

Learning to meditate was the greatest gift that I’ve given to myself because out of everything I’ve ever tried in the wellness space, it’s the one thing that leads me to truth, love, and absence of fear.
