I love this super-simple recipe for a gorgeous, natural lip gloss – it even has a rosy stain to it, and it tastes delish.
This recipe will make 4 quarter-ounce pots of gloss. You can either use old lip gloss pots*, or buy some from Mountain Rose Herbs. You might want to think about doubling up the recipe and making a few for gifts. Alternatively, you can make 1 large lip gloss – in which case you’ll just need a 1-ounce jar.
*Make sure you sterilize your container before use by dipping them in a bowl of just-boiled water.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 ounce sunflower oil
- 1/2 ounce cocoa butter ( I use 4 cocoa butter wafers from Mountain Rose Herbs because it’s a little easier to measure out.)
- 1tsp beeswax (I use the beeswax pastilles from Mountain Rose Herbs, as again they are easy to measure out.)
- 1 tsp raw honey
- 1/4 tsp beetroot juice ( I juice a couple of beets and use most of it in a smoothie.)
- 5 drops vanilla essence
- 5 drops sweet orange essential oil
DIRECTIONS
- Place the oils and butter in a metal bowl over a boiling pan of water, or in a bain-marie. Heat until all the cocoa butter has melted.
- Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the honey.
- Add the beet juice, and whisk vigorously.
- Add the essential oils.
- Allow the mixture to cool for about 10 minutes or until it begins to turn opaque, and then whisk it again vigorously.
- Pour into the pots or jar, and leave to cool completely before screwing on cap.
These glosses will be good for up to a year, if stores in a cool, dark cabinet.
