Since we now know that eating a predominantly alkaline diet is a good thing for our overall health – and by this I mean eating as many alkaline-forming foods as possible, a 80/20 is the easiest way to implement this nutritional philosophy.
Remember, when your body’s pH is balanced (and the typical American diet pushes it toward the acidic end of the pH scale), your body will be able to heal and operate optimally.
An alkaline diet isn’t rocket science! It basically means eating as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can, and trying to stick to a whole food plant-based diet. It doesn’t mean that we have to eat green food and chug apple cider vinegar 24/7, I promise!
The worst offenders in terms of acid-producing foods are the usual offenders: meat, dairy, sugar, refined flours etc. However, don’t stress. If you drink a good cup of coffee every morning, totally fine (but no more). If you want the occasional pizza, or glass of wine – why not? The key is to eat alkaline-forming foods 80% of the time, and then you can still have your treats and the things that you love.
