If you’ve every tried to give up something that you’re addicted to, you might experience all kinds of unpleasant feelings including restlessness, irritability, or even mild depression. And I’m not just talking about sugar or cigarettes! We can be addicted to all kinds of things from Facebook, to shopping online, to exercise. Things are are ostensibly fine (like exercise or shopping), can become unhealthy if we are doing it to avoid facing life on life’s terms. If you ever find that an activity is interrupting or causing problems in your life, and that you can’t go a day without indulging – maybe there’s an issue.
If you find yourself drumming your fingers on the table because you just need to do some online shopping or dive into the fridge in search of a sugary snack, bizarre as it sounds, try coloring. It’s actually a huge thing in England right now – adults whipping out their gel pens and coloring books.
I have just come across the magical coloring books by Johanna Basford, and I have started on my first gorgeous page of coloring in the Secret Garden – a gorgeous inky treasure hunt and coloring book for kids or adults. Now I’m obsessed with the which pens to use – yes I can hear my husband sighing right now because he just knows that a small packet of gel pens from Staples isn’t going to do the trick… I mean business!!
So ditch your yoga mat this week, and try some coloring instead.
