Since we all know that a suntan (from the sun) is not safe or good for our skin, a perfect sunless tan is they way to go. But until quite recently those sunless tanners smelled absolutely gross, left weird patches/streaks, and didn’t wear well. Having tested about 20 different brands over the past year, I have my favorites. But before I reveal the perfect sunless tan, make sure you follow these important tips:

1. Before applying your tanner, exfoliate really well, because the tan only happens in the uppermost layer of your skin. Those dead skin cells are shed daily, and your tan washed down the drain with them!

2. After exfoliation, moisturize areas where the tanning products can get caught in dry/rough patches of your skin, such as toes, heels, elbows, and knees.

3. Apply the tanner with a huge Kabuki brush or a mitt to help smooth on the product evenly.
