Prebiotic Smoothie

Prebiotic Smoothie
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This prebiotic smoothie is amazingly good for your health. Prebiotics are foods that encourage the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut. They actually feed the good bacteria, and should be your first line of defense in terms of keeping your gut really healthy. Prebiotics are as important, if not more important, than probiotics. A prebiotic smoothie is a great way to get all those great nutrients into your gut. Think of it as “gut fertilizer”!

The following raw foods will give you a healthy dose of prebiotics: garlic, leeks, onions, artichokes, asparagus, chicory and tomatoes. The best fruits and grains for prebiotics are berries, bananas and flax seed, so here’s my pro and pre-biotic smoothie recipe, which will set your gut up for the day.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup frozen organic mixed berries
  • 2 tbsp ground flax seed
  • 2 tbsp cultured coconut yogurt (you could go with plain, unsweetened yogurt if you are okay with dairy).
  • 8  ounces of coconut water or almond milk

Instructions

Blend it all up, and enjoy. If you want a little more protein in it, you could always add a scoop of hemp protein powder, which will give you a good shot of healthy omega 3 fatty acids too.

Enjoy your prebiotic smoothie!
