I LOVE saunas. I actually way prefer them to steam rooms because I don’t trust the germ situation in a steam room. But I love to go sweat in a good old sauna. Interesting that a new study has come out finding that using a sauna regularly may help to extend your life! The study shows that people in the study had fewer fatal heart problems.
A sauna provides cardio conditioning as the heat in your body rise, however, it is not recommended for someone with angina or a recent heart surgery, and of course, always check with your doctor before using one.
Heart conditioning aside, I love the SWEATING factor – I just dig the feeling of all the dirt, grime and toxins pouring out of my skin. When I use a sauna, I always add a couple of drops of tea tree or lavender oil to a clean hand towel and use this to wipe down my face, neck and chest after sweating.
Post Sauna Tips: Make sure you drink tons of filtered water, and be super vigilant about moisturizing your face and body with a plant-based cream or oil to prevent your skin from drying out.
