These tasty Thai baked tofu sticks are ideal because as most of you know, without some serious spices going on, tofu is not gonna work for most people. But the great thing about tofu is that it is very porous and will beautifully soak up any flavors that you marinate it in. Sometimes I go down the Mediterranean route, but this week I went Thai!
It’s all about using good quality tofu too. I like WildWood’s Super Firm Sprouted Tofu for this recipe. Tofu should always be USDA organic, and I like the beans to be sprouted because it makes them more digestible.
Ingredients
- 1 10-ounce package of super firm tofu
- 2tbsp Tamari sauce
- 1tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 2tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 garlic gloves, crushed
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Sea salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Remove the tofu from packaging and wrap in in 2 layer of paper towel. Then wrap it in a clean dish towel with something heavy (a pan maybe) set on top. Leave for 20 minutes to make sure all the water is removed.
- Meanwhile, whizz up all the ingredients (except the sesame seeds) in a blender, then pour into a container with a lid.
- Cut the tofu into sticks and carefully place in marinade – make sure you spoon marinade all over the sticks.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Pre-heat the oven to 400 F
- Remove the sticks from the marinade and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes or until they are just getting crispy.
- Just prior to serving, spoon the remaining marinade to top. I recommend serving with rice or quinoa and some steamed Bok choy.
- Enjoy your delicious Thai baked tofu sticks!
