For some of us, the weather is getting a bit warmer – it’s time to pull on your rubber gloves and get cleaning. I have tons of inexpensive, non-toxic recipes for cleaning products, and I’m excited to share some of them with you, starting with this DIY Tub, Tile & Grout Cleaner.
My favorite because it’s so darn effective, is my Tub, Tile & Grout Cleaner. Honestly – this is better than anything you can buy at the store, it’s a fraction of the price, and best of all – you won’t be breathing in toxic fumes. Remember products that contain bleach and be seriously toxic.
If in doubt about the toxicity of chlorine bleach, please read the study at the bottom of this post.
DIY Tub, Tile & Grout Cleaner
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup table salt
- 1 cup borax
- Water
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
- 20 drops lavender essential oil
Mix all the dry ingredients in a reusable container with a tight-fitting lid. Add the essential oils. Add enough water to form a thick paste and mix well with a fork.
When you are ready to use it, scoop a clump of the cleaner out of the container with a scrubbing sponge. Apply directly to tile, grout, and/or tub and scrub gently in circular motions. You can keep you cleaner in a cool, dark cabinet for up to 3 months.
While you’re at it in the bathroom, get rid of mold and mildew with white vinegar. Simply fill a sprayer bottle with neat white vinegar and spritz in cracks, crevices and all over the inside of your shower curtain. The odor will disappear after a few minutes. Remember, white vinegar also kills bacteria and germs.
