You’ll never buy a soy candle again when you realize how easy they are to make – seriously! You can either make an orange candle with pumpkin fragrance, which smell and looks amazing. Or you can go a more pure route by making a soy candle with a blend of essential oils that smell Holiday-ish. The choice is yours.
You can also choose the container you want to make your candle in. If you are making the orange pumpkin blend, I recommend using a glass container as it’s so pretty, and if you go with the pure candle, maybe use a tin (I keep all my old tea tins) because the oils might separate a little (which is best to hide). I love the Smelly Jelly containers from Nature’s Garden for my orange pumpkin candles because you can keep the wick straight while it sets up because it sits in the central hole.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1.5 cups soy wax flakes
- 3 drops orange soap dye (optional). If you want a really natural dye, try this.
- 1 tsp Nature’s Garden Pumpkin fragrance or my essential oil blend*
- Wicks
- Containers
- A glue gun
DIRECTIONS:
- Prepare your container and wick by sticking the metal plate of the wick to the bottom of the container with a glue gun.
- Melt the wax either in a double boiler or the microwave. Add the dye (if using) and fragrance or essential oils.
- Pour the mixture into your container. Pull the wick straight. If using the Smelly Jelly jars, you’ll thread the wick through the central hold. If you are using your own container, a Mason jar or a tin, lay popsicle or bamboo sticks across the jar to keep wick straight. Let it set up for about 3 hours.
- Trim the wick to 1/2 inch above the wax.
*Essential oil blend: 10 drops sweet orange, 5 drops clove, 5 drops cinnamon leaf
