I have tried many of the wonderful skin care products from The Organic Pharmacy, so was really excited to try their makeup line too. The Organic Pharmacy originates out of the UK and was started by Margo Marrone, a homeopathic pharmacist. Every product in the store is organic and of the highest quality, being certified by the prestigious Soil Association. They prohibit the use of artificial preservatives, fragrances and colorants. They also make sure that their ingredients are fair-trade and that there is absolutely no animal-testing. So you’re basically in pretty fine hands with this company!
As many of you know, I’m always on a quest to find the perfect non-toxic makeup, so I was excited to visit the store in Beverly Hills and have a makeover with the Organic Glam line. The first thing that Kerry, the manager explained, was that every single product was therapeutic, as well as cosmetic – for example, the mascara contains all kinds of nourishing oils and butters, instead of all the chemicals that are packed into many drugstore mascaras. The creme foundation contains shea butter and all kinds of homeopathic ingredients for healing and protecting your skin, which I was thrilled to hear because this was actually one of my favorite products. It’s a creamy base, so easy to apply and it gives you the perfect amount of coverage for everyday. It feels light and absolutely nothing gets caught in the cracks and wrinkles, which can’t be said for most creme foundations. It pairs beautifully with their anti-oxidant pressed powder. The aforementioned mascara is beautiful. It feels great, doesn’t move at all throughout the day and really enhances your lashes. Finally the “Nude” eye shadow palette is just the perfect little compact for everyday and travel.
I left the store feeling pretty as a peach, confident that all those homeopathic remedies and herbs were doing their thing, and as if Kerry hadn’t impressed me enough, she suggested I try a spritz of their new fragrance collection before I leave. “Is it phthalate-free?” I enquired – and yes it totally is. These perfumes are exquisite – really intoxicating. They’re pricey, but to get that kind of potent scent from rare flowers is no mean feat. The bottle is also massive and will last a couple of years if kept in a cool dark place (I always keep mine in it’s box). I’m obsessed with the “Oriental Blossom” – it’s sexy, pretty and stays with you for the day.
The Organic Pharmacy takes a holistic approach in that they sell all the supplements, herbs and remedies that you need for beauty from the inside out. The store in Beverly Hills has a little clinic, where you can get a full health assessment with an electro-interstitial Body Scan – this can apparently tell you everything from your hormone levels to whether you eat too much wheat. I’ll be back for one of those sessions, but I’ll have to have my wallet firmly clamped shut as I walk past the Organic Glam section.
If you don’t live in LA, you can order all their products online – oh and one more thing, come Summer – they have the best Sunless Tanner on the market!
