THE KING!

Colin Firth deservedly won Best Actor and I’m thrilled – not just because of a stellar performance but also because he is a salt-of-the-earth kind of man. He also attributes anything good that’s ever happened to him, to his stunning Italian wife, Livia. She  is a quintessentially Gorgeously Green Girl who wore an Oscar gown last night made from dozens of recycled dresses. It was simple, elegant and carried a message that she feels passionate about – that we need to understand where our clothes come from and try to make sure that they don’t harm the planet or anyone who makes them.

I visited their wonderful store, Eco Age in London last Summer and was blown away by it’s simplicity and style. Livia and Colin are a couple who really walk the green walk. Unlike some celebrities who make a huge deal out of showing up for award’s ceremonies in Electric cars and what not, this down-to-Earth couple really care deeply about the crisis we now face. Colin is a big fan of Prince Charles because of his passion for doing what he can to spread the green message. BTW, I highly recommend Prince Charles’s new book, Harmony. It’s a lovely coffee table book and a very robust read.

Livia also has a green consultancy for interior design. If I lived in London and had fistfuls of cash, I’d be calling up Liva for a personal consultation! On the Eco Age website, you too can shop for everything from bed & bath goodies to purses and jewelry. The “must-have” of this month is Livia’s Heart Necklace, which was launched in Los Angeles at the Movie Critic Awards. Livia carries one of my favorite sustainable American designer’s, Steward Brown, and wonderful British designer, Anatomy.

I’m also a big fan of People Tree, the wonderful British Fair-trade clothing company, which now ships to the U.S. Emma Watson has designed her last collection for them and the clothes are fresh, pretty and perfect for tweens and teens with a conscience.
