SULWHASOO

essential-value-set-2014I’ve become a little obsessed with everything Korean of late because where I live in Los Angeles is very close to Koreatown, and I just love the Korean’s absolute dedication to beauty. Some of the biggest beauty trends are coming to the US from Asia, and there’s reason why – they attend to detail and quality in a way that is sometimes lost in the US.

Sulwhasoo is a luxury holistic skin care brand from Korea, which debuted in the U.S. in 2010 at Bergdorf Goodman. Their legendary Ginseng Renewing cream won a “BG Best Pick,” putting this brand firmly on the map for those who can afford it. It is pricey – but is it worth it?

I tested all the products from the Essential Value Set when I was traveling last week, and I was really impressed. The stand-out products for me are the Essential Balancing Water and the Essential Balancing Emulsion – both  gel-based and formulated with a plethora of herbs and botanicals including white lily, peony, and lotus. My skin drank up these toners and emulsions, and when I was done with applying the Revitalizing Serum, Eye Cream – and the cherry-on-top – the luxurious Ginseng Renewing Cream, my skin literally felt like silk …and despite the bitter East Coast weather, staying dewy and soft all day long.

A big thumbs up for Sulwhasoo, and it IS worth it! It’s high-end – no mistaking that, however, I personally give it a considerably higher score than 80% of the other much-hyped “luxurious” department store brands.
