It seems that a perfect leather substitute for eco-friendly vegans would be cork!. Cork is 100% eco-friendly, sustainable, water resistant, and very soft. Rok Cork have made the most GORGEOUS purses and accessories out of cork that will have you drooling. I’m so happy to find this company because I don’t love plastic as a leather alternative – it’s just annoying to eschew one product (leather) in favor of one that is hugely polluting (in it’s manufacture,) the planet. Sure, there are a lot of amazing recycled leather purses that are now available, some of which I love, but to find a cruelty-free material that behaves just like leather, seems to good to be true.
I am in love with the Rok Salir Handbag – it is the perfect size and shape for a super stylish everyday bag – big enough for iPad, small computer or large notebook, and yet not too overwhelming. The chocolate cork feels like soft suede, and yet is durable and water resistant. I also might have to invest in one of their Mac Book Air sleeves – they are simply gorgeous, and every shell or case I’ve every purchased for my trusty Mac has broken. Not only will this keep my precious computer safe, but the natural cook markings are so unique and stylish. Rok Cork accessories are beautifully made, too. The cork is harvested, and the purses are manufactured in Portugal, and offered to us at a really great price.
So, ditch the animal hides, and the plastic, and choose a cork purse this year – you’ll be waaaaaaay ahead of the curve!
