One of my absolute favorite clothes designers in the U.S. is Natalie Chanin, creator of Alabama Chanin. Each and every piece of clothing is a work of art, made with love and care, and most definitely an heirloom garment. Purchasing an Alabama Chanin piece is so perfect for the Gorgeously Green girl because you are buying something that will never go out of style and also a garment that if treated with love, you last for generations. Each garment is handmade in Alabama using truly sustainable and earth-friendly methods and these women really walk the walk – no green-washing here.
I love that every Alabama Chanin piece is part of her aesthetic – these classic, yet modern pieces will work together or with your capstone wardrobe. They look gorgeous on every shape, and come in a wide range of sizes (I love a size-inclusive line)! When I’m dressing with Alabama Chanin pieces, I love to think about mixing stypes – Natalie’s pieces are so flexible they pair with everything!
I also have to mention: Alabama Chanin basics (such as The Tank and The Jogger) are out of this world. I love that these are part of my wardrobe – they last forever and look so glamorous, even though they’re the most comfortable clothes I own.
Natalie is also a mentor to a group of young design students at the Otis School of fashion and design in Los Angeles. I had the great pleasure of presenting an award on her behalf at their annual fashion show, where one of her students was chosen. Alabama Chanin has a delectable website, so plan to spend a few minutes browsing. If times won’t allow for a purchase right now, check out the Alabama Stitch Book, which is not only one of the most beautiful books I own, but one that will actually teach you how to sew one of these creations for yourself.
