My husband freaked out when I walked out of the bathroom sporting my GLO Science teeth whitening device. Admittedly, it does look a bit bizarre when it’s turned on because you’ve got a kind of iPhone looking think hanging around your neck, and then a mouthpiece that look like a mini UFO stuck in your mouth. I actually dig the look – not saying that I’d do my Trader Joe’s shop wearing it, but around the house….I think it’s pretty cool.
Looks aside, it’s no wonder that the GLO Science teeth whitening device has earned a covetous Thomas Edison award for design and innovation. Having tried all kinds of different teeth whitening products, both “natural” and not, I’ve never been very happy with the process or the results. I drink a bunch of tea, which is a mega teeth-stainer. So, unless I want my teeth you look as yellow as most of my British friends back home, I need to do some kind of bleaching. I don’t love the strips because a lot of them contain ingredients other than the hydrogen peroxide that I don’t love, and they HURT! My teeth are really sensitive, and they don’t like those strips – not one little bit. This made me very curious about the GLO Science device -but I wasn’t sold on the “no sensitivity” thing, because I’ve heard that before!
My device arrived and was very easy to assemble and get started. After charging for the requisite four hours, it was good to go. As directed, I brushed the bleaching gel on the fronts of my teeth, slotted in the mouth piece and clicked the iPhone thing, which made the mouthpiece glow neon. It was a little more involved than the strips because you have to re-apply the gel 3 more times. The whole “session” however takes just 36 minutes, and given that you can carry on with life as usual (except for talking, which I did try and ended up drooling “all over the floor” according to my daughter), it’s extremely convenient. Depending on your current shade, you need to do the 36-minute session for 3-5 consecutive days.
My verdict is that I love this machine. I experienced zero sensitivity, which is amazing. My teeth gradually brightened to the natural-looking shade of white that I like (I don’t want blue-white teeth), and although it seems that it comes with a hefty price tag ($199.00) for the whole kit, it actually is probably just as cost effective as the strips, which don’t come cheap – and you’ve got to keep buying them. Once you have this device, all you need do is buy refill gels, but the gel tubes that came in my kit are enough for both my husband and I for a year.
All said and done – a very big thumbs up for GLO Science.
