Ahhh fall is here; time to drool over pumpkin recipes, cuddle up in fuzzy sweaters, switch from iced to hot chai and….change up your beauty routine! Yes, it’s that time of year when your skin needs changes too. Summer heat, sweat, sun damage and sticky sunscreens take a toll on your face, so here are a few tips to do some “Fall Clean Up” in preparation for the winter months and to keep your skin looking youthful and radiant! First, you need to exfoliate and purify. Try mixing pumpkin puree, oat flour and honey into a paste and apply in gentle massaging circles. Leave on 5 minutes then rinse off. Pumpkin is rich in nutrients, oat flour will gently exfoliate, soothe and brighten the complexion, while honey is purifying and healing.
Next, use natural alpha hydroxy fruit acids to fade pigmentation, smooth and brighten the complexion. My favorites are pure lemon juice and Apple Cider Vinegar. Simply dab onto the face and rinse after 10 minutes. You can try Sophie’s AHA mask – see video here.
The next vital step is to moisturize with a good quality creme or oil rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Look for ingredients such as Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Argan Oil and Pomegranate Seed Oil. Your skin will need a little extra moisture going into the winter months, especially after you exfoliate. Take a few extra minutes every night to massage your moisturizer into the skin, paying attention to fine lines and wrinkles. Massaging the face can soften the appearance of wrinkles, increase lymphatic drainage and relax tension in the facial muscles.
Don’t forget, the outer health of our skin is directly related to our internal health. A few of my standby health habits include:
-Drinking nettle and ginger tea regularly
-Eating kale and spinach with pineapple, coconut flakes and hemp seed oil for breakfast!
-Exercise every day! Change is up between biking, running, weights, tae bo, bar method, pilates and of course, lots of dancing.
My favorite fall products from the Tilvee collection are The Acai and Pomegranate Rejuvenating Masque, Raspberry Hydrating Toner, and the Argan and Sea Buckthorn age-defying crème.
