DRIED APRICOTS

dried_apricotsDried un-sulphured apricots are the most delicous treat. They are as tasty as caramel and so a great candy alternative. Sulphur dioxide is used to preserve many dried fruits and to help them retain their color, however many people with food allergies or asthma cannot tolerate this chemical. I actaully prefer the taste of un-sulphured apricots. They’re not as pretty as their bright orange counterparts, but contain all the same nutrients. Apricots contain a lot of Beta carotene, which may help prevent heart disease and they also contain a high level of Vitamin A, which is great for your vision. They’re also a great way of packing healthy fiber into your diet. I love the apricots from Living Harvest. As a snack, I push half a walnut inside an apricot and pop it into my mouth – heaven!
